Patent number: 9125318Abstract: A system includes a chassis, first and second blade servers, and a scalability device. Each blade server is securable within the chassis and includes a scalability port, cam handle for selectively securing the blade server in the chassis, and handle latch for selectively latching the cam handle in a closed position, and lockout mechanism moveable into a position that blocks the handle latch in a latched position. The scalability device includes first and second scalability connectors, wherein positioning the scalability device so that the first scalability connector is coupled to a scalability port of the first blade server and the second scalability connector is coupled to a scalability port of the second blade server causes each lockout mechanism to move into the position that blocks the handle latches in the latched position. Accordingly, the scalability device must be removed before either of the blade servers can be removed.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2013Date of Patent: September 1, 2015Assignee: Lenovo Enterprise Solutions (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.Inventors: Michael D. French, Jr., Walter A. Goodman, Edward J. McNulty, Glenn E. Myrto

Publication number: 20050281001Abstract: A chip sandwich includes a heat sink, a retention module, a computer chip mounted in a socket on a mother board, a wave washer spring and a mounting plate. The heat sink is mounted on the retention module using cams, hooks and heat sink tabs to provide an initial orientation of the heat sink over the computer chip. To provide final contact pressure between the heat sink and the computer chip, a wave washer spring oriented beneath the computer chip and under the mother board provides an upward pressure against the bottom of the mother board, and particularly against the center of the computer chip. Thus, by the wave washer spring pushing against the center of the computer chip, secure contact pressure is provided between the heat sink and the computer chip, while minimizing the amount of pressure between the computer chip's pins and the chip socket.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2004Publication date: December 22, 2005Applicant: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Karl Dittus, Timothy Farrow, Walter Goodman, Dean Herring, William Martin-Otto, Rodrigo Samper, John Scavuzzo

Patent number: 5398164Abstract: This invention is a printed circuit card latching and stiffening assembly with an elongated stiffener member located on the top edge of the printed circuit card. A latch is pivotally attached to the stiffener member. At least one compliant clip is mounted on the stiffener member so that the clip may be slid to engage the pivotal latch in a locked position. The latch also includes a slot for engaging an electronic enclosure structure, such as a card cage. The slot enables the card to be cammed into the base of the card cage when the pivotal latch engages the sliding compliant clip. The latching and stiffening assembly further includes at least one pivotal member which may pivot from the stiffener member to engage a side of the printed circuit card further stiffening the card.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1993Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Walter A.
