Abstract: A process for scavenging hydrogen sulfide from gases, in which the hydrogen sulfide-containing gas is introduced into an aqueous glyoxal solution of at least 15% by weight strength at a pH of a solution of 5 to 11 until the molar ratio of glyoxal to hydrogen sulfide is 3 to 2. The solid reaction product obtained in this way, which contains the hydrogen sulfide in bound form, is separated off. Owing to its stability and insolubility in acids and bases, it can be disposed of without problems.

Abstract: Sulfonated tributylphenol ethoxylates of the formula ##STR1## where x denotes a number from 2 to 20, and M denotes a cation, their use as surfactants, in particular as auxiliaries in the tertiary production of crude oil, and an improved, general process for preparing sulfonated alkyl and (alkyl)aryl polyalkoxylates by reacting halides of alkyl and (alkyl)aryl polyethoxylates with alkali metal sulfite by carrying out the reaction in the presence of lower alcohols, polyols, monoethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol or alkyl ethers thereof, as solubilizing agents.

Abstract: Sand or rock masses containing mineral oil are deoiled with a deoiling agent containing an aqueous solution of a water-soluble copolymer which is a random distribution of 5 to 60% of weight of units of the formula ##STR1## 2 to 40% by weight of units of the formula ##STR2## 38 to 93% by weight of units of the formula ##STR3## and partial hydrolysates thereof, wherein when R.sup.1 is hydrogen, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, Y is --CO--NH--C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- or a direct bond, and X.sup..sym. is a cation; when R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different, each is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or, together are trimethylene, Y is --CO--NH--C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- and X.sup..sym. is a cation.

Abstract: Process for the dyeing and/or finishing textile of plane articles made of synthetic or natural fibers or of mixtures of such fibers, by applying in a foamed form and at room temperature onto the goods with the acid of a gaseous propellant, a liquor containing at least one dyestuff and/or finishing agent suitable for the corresponding type of fiber, if required, chemical products necessary for their fixation as well as surface-active substances and subjecting the material thus treating for fixing the dyestuffs and/or finishing agents optionally after the decomposition or destruction of the foaming layer and if necessary by means of oxydating agents to the action of heat or subjecting it to a wet development operation by passing it through a bath consisting of an acid or an alkali, or dwelling it at room temperature or at a moderately raised temperature.
