Abstract: A process for the preparation of cis-2,6-dimethylmorpholine from trans-2,6-dimethylmorpholine by isomerization over a catalyst in the presence of hydrogen.

Abstract: Tripinyltrioxanes of the general formula (I): ##STR1## in which the radicals Pin are either dextrorotatory (+) or laevorotatory (-) pinyl radicals; a process for the production of (I) by treatment of an enantiomeric mixture of (+)-3-formylpinane and (-)-3-formylpinane (II) with an acid in an organic solvent and fractional precipitation of the trimeric compound (I); and redissociation of (I) into the pure enantiomers (II) with a catalytic amount of an acid.

Abstract: Valuable novel 3,5-dimethyl-piperidin-4-one compounds, substituted at the nitrogen by a long-chain radical, which have a good fungicidal action, and a process for combating fungi by means of these compounds.

Abstract: Dimethyl carbonate is obtained pure, from its solutions in methanol, by extractive distillation carried out with a temperature of from 60.degree. C. at the top to 250.degree. C. at the bottom of the column and employing, as the extractant, an aprotic organic liquid which is substantially inert toward dimethyl carbonate, boils at above 100.degree. C. at standard pressure, is miscible with dimethyl carbonate in all proportions and has a dielectric constant .epsilon. of from 4 to 90 and a dipole moment .mu. of from 1.5 to 5 Debye.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of 1-amino-8-nitro-4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone by partially reducing the corresponding dinitrohydroxyanthraquinone and isolating the reduction product, in which crude 1,8-dinitro-4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone obtained by nitrating 4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone is partially reduced in a phenol-water mixture, which contains from 5 to 50% by weight of water, in the presence of an alkali metal phenolate, by means of a reductone, reductonate or a mixture of these. The product is virtually free from by-products and is suitable for use for the synthesis of dyes.

Abstract: Dyes of the formula ##STR1## where X is chlorine or bromine, Y is ##STR2## and n is 0, 1 or 2. On synthetic fiber materials, the dyes give clear blue colorations which are very fast to thermofixing and fast to light.

Abstract: Substituted phenylpropanals and a process for their manufacture by reaction of the corresponding phenylethenes with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at temperatures of from 50.degree. to 180.degree. C and pressures of from 20 to 1,500 atmospheres gauge, in the presence of rhodium carbonyl complexes. The phenylpropanals according to the invention have pleasant scents. 3-(4-Isopropyl-phenyl)-butanal-1 and 3-(4-tert.-butyl-phenyl)-butanal-1, in particular, have suitable scents for the preparation of flower oil. They are also valuable starting materials for synthesizing drugs, plant protection agents and dyes.

Abstract: Reaction of 1-hydroxy-2-ketones of the general formula R-- CO-- CH.sub.2 OH, where R is a short alkyl, with ammonia gives a new compound ##STR1## which on hydrogenation gives 2-amino-1-alcohols; the yield can be improved by carrying out the hydrogenation in the presence of ammonia.

Abstract: Pinanes substituted by a group X in the 3-position which group is formyl, or its alkyl-acetals or alkyl-hemiacetals, carboxylic acid, carboxylic acid chloride, carboxylic acid amide, hydroxymethyl or aminomethyl substituted in a specific manner at the nitrogen, the optical isomers of these compounds and a process for their manufacture by hydroformylation of .alpha.-pinene in the presence of rhodium catalysts, and conversion of the 3-formylpinane first produced into the above derivatives by conventional methods.

Abstract: A process for resolving racemic .alpha.-hydroxy-.beta.,.beta.-dimethyl-.gamma.-butyrolactone, referred to as D,L-pantolactone, into its optical antipodes, based on the separation of diastereomeric salts of D,L-pantoic acid (.alpha.,.gamma.-dihydroxy-.beta.,.beta.-dimethylbutyric acid), produced from D,L-pantolactone, by means of (-)-3-aminomethylpinane, (+)-3-aminomethylpinane or one of their acid addition salts, as a new resolving agent.

Abstract: Method of producing .gamma.-butyrolactams by reacting .gamma.-butyrolactones with ammonia in the presence or absence of water at elevated temperatures and pressures. The reaction is carried out continuously at temperatures ranging from 180.degree. to 340.degree.C whilst maintaining pressures which are at least 10 percent higher than the pressure equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the reactants at the temperature used. .gamma.-Butyrolactams are valuable intermediates, for example in the manufacture of polymers, pharmaceuticals and solvents.

Abstract: The production of 3-methylpentane-1,5-diol by hydroformylation of 2-methylbut-1-en-4-ol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a rhodium carbonyl complex which has been modified by a tertiary organic phosphine followed by hydrogenation of the 2-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyran at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
