The first frangible portion and the second portion are formed within the central portion of the liner with the second portion in spaced relation and adjacent to the sealing edge. The liner is opened along at least the first frangible portion to define a dispensing port. The periphery of the liner, at the sealing edge, forms a seal with the cap when the cap is engaged with the container after the liner is opened. The tab can be removed from the liner leaving the sealing edge in place to effect a seal between the liner and the cap.

These forms are summaries (hereinafter "document surrogates") of associated objects, such as original documents, processes, or their copies, stored in a document processing system. A document surrogate made in accordance with the principles of the present invention comprises at least one sheet of a information storing substrate material that has a human readable area and a machine readable area. The human readable area may contain at least one area of material which summarizes the associated object. Such a summary may either be made manually by the user or created automatically by the document processing system. The machine readable area comprises a document reference code that is readable and recognizable by the document processing system. The code is located by the system and recognized from an image of the entire page. The reference code encodes an indicator to the storage location of the associated object.

Abstract: Storage, manipulation, and retrieval of files, for example data representations of scanned documents, is facilitated by establishing a relationship between an arbitrary, image domain file label and a computer recognizable text domain file name for the file. Selection of the arbitrary, image domain file label is interpreted as a selection of the related file. The arbitrary, image domain file name is assigned by way of a paper form or the like, and may be assigned at the time of document storage. The arbitrary, image domain file label facilitates the meaningful naming of a file for storage when a keyboard or other typical text entry apparatus is unavailable, such as when inputting a document for storage by way of a facsimile machine. Character recognition is not performed on the arbitrary, image domain file label, so the burden on the processing resource is minimized, while errors from inaccuracy are eliminated.
