  • Patent number: 4335870
Abstract: A cooling element for use in metallurgical furnaces, such as blast furnaces, and a method of making the same. The cooling element is composed of a cast-steel body having a surface which in use faces the interior of the respective furnace and which is provided with elements of refractory material. Embedded in the cast-steel body are steel tubes through which cooling medium is to be circulated when the element is in use. Embedded between the respective tubes are heat-absorbing members which are preferably of the same or an analogous material as the cast-steel body itself and which have the purpose of absorbing the temperature differential between the liquidous point of the steel melt and the superheated temperature at which the melt is cast.

  • Patent number: 4327900
Abstract: A cooling element for a metallurgical furnace in which a body of cast material has cooling tubes and adapted to face the interior or the furnace and is transversely spaced opposite marginal portions. The marginal portions of the cooling element are provided with alternating tooth-like configuration having teeth and tooth gaps between them. The cooling tubes or pipes have two inlet planes and two outlet planes. The inlet ends of the cooling pipes are alternately located in one inlet plane and in the other inlet plane and are alternately located in the one outlet plane and the second outlet plane.

  • Patent number: 4196078
Abstract: Method and apparatus for dewatering granulated material, particularly blast furnace slag that has been granulated by quenching hot slag. The quenched material is dewatered in a bucket wheel whose scoops have perforated bottoms. The solids from the wheel are discharged onto a continuous conveyor; while the liquid is passed along an inclined filter and then clarified and reused. Various filter and clarifier constructions are disclosed.
