  • Patent number: 10348102
Abstract: An energy module includes a capacitance-based power source structure, charging circuitry, a DC-to-DC conversion system, and an energy control module. The capacitance-based power source structure is operable to supply a voltage when the energy module is in a voltage supply mode, wherein, when substantially fully charged, the voltage is at least 48 volts and to receive a charge when the energy module is in a charge mode. The charging circuitry is operable to provide a regulated charge voltage to the capacitance-based power source structure when the energy module is in the charge mode. The DC-to-DC conversion system is operable to convert the voltage into one or more regulated supply voltages when the energy module is in the voltage supply mode. The energy control module is operable to determine the voltage supply mode and the charge mode.

  • Patent number: 10275593
Abstract: A computing device includes central processing resources, memory, a network interface, and a security control module. The security control module determines when to change operation of a program of the computing device. When the operation of the program is to be changed, the security control module identifies a first processing resource of the central processing resources that is currently assigned to execute the program and selects a second processing resource of the central processing resources for subsequent execution the program. The security control module then ascertains first execution settings of the program as used by the first processing resource and facilitates conversion of the first execution settings into second execution settings for the second processing resource. The security control module then de-assigns the first processing resource from executing the program and assigns the second processing resource to execute the program.

  • Patent number: 9361456
Abstract: A computing device includes a central processing resource, memory, a network interface, and a security control module. The security control module determines when to change a program of the computing device. When the program is to be changed, the security control module accesses a library of programs that includes a plurality of versions of the program and selects one of the plurality of versions of the program. The security control module then updates an active program list to include the selected version of the program. When the program is evoked, the central processing resource uses the selected version of the program such that execution of the program is changed, which changes internal operation of the computing device thereby reducing adverse impact of the malicious software.

  • Patent number: 9104862
Abstract: A computing device includes a central processing resource, memory, a network interface, and a security control module. The security control module is operable to determine to change at least a portion of a program of the computing device. When the program, or portion thereof, is to be changed, the security control module sends a request to a software generation module for a new version of the program, or portion thereof. The security control module then receives the new version of the program, or portion thereof, and replaces, within the memory, the program, or portion thereof, with the new version of the program, or portion thereof. When the program is evoked, the central processing resource uses the new version of the program, or portion thereof, such that execution of the program is changed, which changes internal operation of the computing device thereby reducing adverse impact of malicious software.

  • Patent number: 6378073
Abstract: A portable secure financial messaging unit (906) includes a receiver (804) and a selective call decoder (1004). The selective call decoder (1004) has a memory (1010) that includes a single unique selective call address corresponding with a predetermined financial transaction type. An address correlator (830) operates to determine substantial coincidence between the single unique selective call address and a received selective call address corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type. In response to a coincidence, a main processor (1006) and a financial transaction processor (1014) process-received information to effect a financial transaction corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type.

  • Patent number: 6353739
Abstract: A combination pager and cordless telephone (40) has a receiver (414) for receiving paging signals including a location identifier associated with a geographic location (202) of a paging controller transmitting the paging signals. A decoder (416) coupled to the receiver (414) decodes the paging signals to recover a page and the location identifier. A memory (422, 423) stores the page and the location identifier identifying the geographic location (202) of the transceiver (40). A message processor (606), coupled to the memory (423), determines when a new location identifier is received; and a controller (420) couples to a home paging controller (10) in response to the message processor (606) determining that the new location identifier has been received.

  • Patent number: 6314519
Abstract: A secure messaging system (900) generates a secure financial transaction message. A wireless selective call signaling system controller (102) receives the secure financial transaction message as a selective call message request including a destination identifier. A selective call message processor (1104) encapsulates the secure financial transaction message in a selective call message that includes a selective call address corresponding with the destination identifier. A selective call transmission service (904) conveys the selective call message to a financial messaging unit (906) that receives the selective call message, and in response to correlating the selective call address with a selective call address corresponding with the financial messaging unit (906), recovers the secure financial transaction message to effect a financial transaction.

  • Patent number: 6311167
Abstract: A portable 2-way secure financial messaging unit (906) includes a receiver (804), a selective call decoder (1004), a financial transaction processor (1014), a main processor (1006), and a transmitter (1034). A received secure financial transaction message is decoded by the selective call decoder (1004) and either passed directly to a financial transaction processor (1014) in the secure financial messaging unit or to a smart card to prevent unauthorized access to information contained in the secure financial transaction message. The portable 2-way secure financial messaging unit (906) may originate as well as receive financial transactions.

Abstract: A portable secure financial messaging unit (906) includes a receiver (804) and a selective call decoder (1004). The selective call decoder (1004) has a memory (1010) that includes plurality of unique selective call addresses each corresponding with a predetermined financial transaction type. An address correlator (830) operates to determine substantial coincidence between one of the plurality of unique selective call addresses and a received selective call address corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type. In response to a coincidence, a main processor (1006) and a financial transaction processor (1014) process received information to effect a financial transaction corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type.

  • Patent number: 6038549
Abstract: A secure messaging system including a secure messaging system controller (1100) and a first financial messaging unit (906). A user initiates a financial transaction by providing a transaction authentication code to the secure messaging system controller (1100). In response to the first financial messaging unit (906) receiving a secure financial transaction message containing a value, a user inputs the corresponding transaction authentication code that releases and disburses at least a portion of the value to the first financial messaging unit (906) for effecting a financial transaction.

  • Patent number: 5845202
Abstract: A combination radio/telephone transceiver (40) receives a selective call signal over a selective call channel and searches for its assigned address (415). When the assigned address (415) is found, a message (405) associated therewith is decoded and stored, and the signal is further examined to determine whether the message (405) has been flagged for acknowledgment, such as by appending a predetermined ackback flag (425) or a predetermined ack address to the address (415) assigned to the combination radio/telephone transceiver (40). When no acknowledgment is requested, i.e., when the message (405) has not been flagged for acknowledgment, the combination radio/telephone transceiver (40) does not acknowledge reception of the message (405). When the message (405) is flagged for acknowledgment, the combination radio/telephone transceiver (40) acknowledges reception of the message (405) via a telephone network rather than over the selective call channel.

  • Patent number: 5781882
Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing a voice message to provide low bit rate speech transmission processes the voice message to generate speech parameters which are arranged into a two dimensional parameter matrix (502) including a sequence of parameter frames. The two dimensional parameter matrix (502) is transformed using a predetermined two dimensional matrix transformation function (414) to obtain a two dimensional transform matrix (506). Distance values representing distances between templates of a set of predetermined templates and the two dimensional transform matrix (506) are then derived. The distance values derived are identified by indexes identifying the templates of the set of predetermined templates. The distance values derived are compared, and an index corresponding to a template of the set of predetermined templates having a shortest distance is selected and then transmitted.
