  • Publication number: 20160304948
Abstract: Methods for adding sequence tags during amplification of a nucleic acid target are provided. The target is amplified using two sets of primers that are modified such that only tagged targets can ligate to hairpin adapters that protect them from subsequent exonuclease treatment. Methods of making circular nucleic acids are also provided. Specific overhangs are created by exonuclease trimming with a polymerase such that only desired targets can ligate to sticky ended hairpin adapters that protect them from subsequent exonuclease treatment. Compositions, kits, and systems related to or useful in the methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 9443733
Abstract: The present disclosure describes apparatuses and techniques for device-based die authentication. In some aspects, an intensity of a particle beam is varied during semiconductor processing to provide a semiconductor die having devices of varied values. In other aspects, different areas of semiconductor dies are exposed during semiconductor processing to provide semiconductor dies with devices that vary in value from one die to the next. For each semiconductor die, a value generated based on the values of the die's respective devices can be associated with that die thereby enabling subsequent authentication of the semiconductor die.

  • Patent number: 9361456
Abstract: A computing device includes a central processing resource, memory, a network interface, and a security control module. The security control module determines when to change a program of the computing device. When the program is to be changed, the security control module accesses a library of programs that includes a plurality of versions of the program and selects one of the plurality of versions of the program. The security control module then updates an active program list to include the selected version of the program. When the program is evoked, the central processing resource uses the selected version of the program such that execution of the program is changed, which changes internal operation of the computing device thereby reducing adverse impact of the malicious software.

  • Publication number: 20160089936
Abstract: A tire tread is provided that in an unworn state includes one or more tread features having a layer of a relatively softer, higher grip rubber material. This layer is formed from a first rubber composition that is provided as a skim or relatively thin layer at the contact surface of the tread feature. This skim provides the grip needed as the tire starts to warm up but can then wear away after an initial period of use so that the contact surface is eventually formed from a second rubber composition. This second rubber composition, in turn, provides the desired level of grip and acceptable wear at the higher temperatures that occur as the tire heats up from use. The layer of skim can be profiled depending upon the application and performance characteristics needed.

  • Patent number: 9261692
Abstract: An enhanced battery compartment associated with a night vision monocular device (NVMD) can support multiple battery types. For each battery type, a NVMD can receive an input voltage from a power source within an interior chamber of the enhanced battery compartment. The power source can be a AA battery or a CR123A battery and no additional adapter is required when the enhanced battery compartment has been attached to the NVMD. The NVMD can conform to an Army Navy Personal Viewer System 14 (AN/PVS-14) device. The NVMD can regulate the input voltage from the power source and provide an output voltage conforming to a pre-determined setting. In one embodiment, regulation of the input voltage can be performed by a component external to the enhanced battery compartment and installed in the NVMD, such as a subsystem or subassembly of the NVMD. The NVMD can activate a monocular subassembly associated with the NVMD utilizing the output voltage.

  • Patent number: 9149346
Abstract: The present invention discloses a synthetic polymer tooth replacement for replacing a missing tooth. The synthetic tooth replacement is a periodontic implant suitable for natural and reconstructed periodontic in the geometric/topographic construct similar to that of a natural tooth's dentin below the gumline. The synthetic polymer tooth replacement is made of a composition comprising a moldable resin and weighted particular additives. The replacement is formed by centrifuging the composition and pouring into a mold. The mold is customized to the recipients missing tooth, resulting in a replacement that has an exterior that is configured to bow out over a period of time, such that when the partially cured replacement is placed in a recipient's dental cavity, the replacement locks into the place while fully curing over a period of time. The advantages are the natural feel and noninvasive nature of the polymer dentin, which does not disturb the natural state of the dentin cavities.

  • Publication number: 20150269258
Abstract: A system improves privacy without compromising effectiveness of data collection by allowing an autonomous or remotely operated camera system, such as that on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), satellite, or other robot to self-censor by removing incidentally-collected non-critical data at the source, before that data can become accessible offboard the remotely operated camera system. In an example in which a region of interest is defined as a building, the system may automatically remove data not corresponding to the building before transmitting or archiving such data. In another example in which a person is incidentally observed, the system may automatically remove data corresponding to the person before transmitting or archiving such data.
