Patent number: 7565398Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for dynamically reconfiguring partitions of a partitioned computer system are provided. Here, dynamically reconfiguring a partition is defined as being able to reconfigure the partition while the partition is operational. Using a graphical user interface (GUI), a user may indicate a plurality of resources that are to be involved in a partition reconfiguration. However, the partition is actually reconfigured one resource at a time. If one of the resources is memory, then memory is allocated to the partition or de-allocated from the partition one logical memory block (LMB) at a time. In reconfiguring partitions, resources may be removed, added or moved from one partition to another. Moving resources from one partition to another entails removing the resources from one partition and adding it to the other partition. After a partition re-configuration, a resource allocation table is updated. All this is done transparently to the user.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2002Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Shamsundar Ashok, Robert Kimberlin Foster, Walter Manfred Lipp, Minh Nguyen

Patent number: 7191111Abstract: Dynamic cosimulation is implemented using a cosimulation bridge for data exchange between a primary simulator and a secondary simulator, and a plurality of user selected optimization control signals defined over the cosimulation bridge. At least one user selected optimization control signal is identified for disabling the cosimulation bridge. The primary simulator and secondary simulator are dynamically disengaged for ending data exchange responsive to disabling the cosimulation bridge. Responsive to optimization control signal going inactive, the primary simulator and secondary simulator are dynamically re-engaged for data exchange. The optimization control signals include a single sided disable; a two independent disable; a functional OR disable; a functional AND disable, and suspend signals. The single sided disable and the two independent disable enable disabling one side of the cosimulation bridge and not the other side.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Raymond Walter Manfred Schuppe

Patent number: 7131099Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for implementing RTL power sequencing simulation of voltage islands for application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designs. RTL sequential state saving elements in a voltage island hierarchy are identified. A state is invalidated for each identified RTL sequential state saving element during a power down operation. Switch objects are used to identify and skip globally powered gate level circuits in the voltage island. RTL sequential state saving elements and VI switch objects can be identified using predefined reserved signal identifiers in the ASIC library.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2004Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Raymond Walter Manfred Schuppe

Method and apparatus for maintaining profiles for terminals in a configurable data processing system
Patent number: 7039692Abstract: The present invention provides a method, apparatus, and computer implemented instructions for managing a set of objects for a plurality of terminals. The set of objects are stored in a memory, such as a nonvolatile random access memory in a data processing system. The set of objects are used to configure logical partitions within the data processing system. Access to the set of objects is provided to the plurality of terminals through a service processor.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert Kimberlin Foster, Walter Manfred Lipp, Charles Andrew McLaughlin, David R. Patent number: 7023459Abstract: A method and system for providing a computer system having a plurality of logical partitions with a virtual terminal is disclosed. The computer system is coupled to an external display device through a single communications interface. The method and system include allowing the logical partitions to share the communications interface by multiplexing communications to the display device for each of the logical partitions over the communication interface. Windows are displayed on the display device for each of the logical partitions, and the communications from each of the logical partitions is then routed to the corresponding window for display on the display device.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: April 4, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Richard Louis Arndt, Robert Kimberlin Foster, Walter Manfred Lipp, Kerry Alan Lucas, Casey Lee McCreary, Bruce Mealey, Joshua Nathan Poimboeuf

Patent number: 5802362Abstract: New adapter functions for a computer system are moved from existing TTY configuration code to load modules dynamically linked to the TTY configuration code at run time. A load module attribute stored in a vendor-supplied component of a database provides the load module path and name. Third party vendors may then add TTY configuration support by supplying the load module and adding the appropriate attribute(s) to the database, obviating system vendor assistance or source code access. Ease of configuration is enhanced by avoiding displays of TTY device characteristics not supported by currently installed system hardware. An additional type attribute for predefined attributes in the database permits TTY attributes specific to a particular adapter type to be stored under a unique identifier. The additional type attribute and query of a parent device of a TTY for extended attributes for other device types permit third party vendors to add new adapters by generating a load module linked at run time.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Walter Manfred Lipp, Chris Alan Schwendiman

Patent number: 4772441Abstract: Particulate styrene polymers containing blowing agents are prepared by a process in which an aliphatic hydrocarbon of 7 to 9 carbon atoms is added in an amount of from 0.01 to 0.5% by weight, based on the styrene polymer, before, during or after the polymerization. The particulate styrene polymers can be processed to foam blocks and moldings having a satisfactory smooth surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: BASF AktiengesellschaftInventors: Harro Voss, Klaus Hahn, Walter Manfred, Isidoor DeGrave
