  • Publication number: 20030218027
Abstract: A pressure container with an outer container (20) and a constantly deformable or compressible inner container is arranged within the outer container (20), whose container wall is constructed of a metallic foil. A fill material chamber (11) for fill material (12) is arranged in the inner container (10) and in the outer container (20), a propellant chamber (21) is formed for propellant (22, 23), which are separated from one another in a fluid- and/or gas-tight manner. The pressure container is furthermore provided with a cover part (25) for sealing the containers (10, 20), on which a valve part (30) is arranged for dispensing fill material (12) from the fill material chamber (11) to the outside. For improving the pressure container it is proposed that a compensation body (41) be provided in the inner container (10) for the purpose of compensating volume variations in the fill material chamber (11).

  • Patent number: 5317147
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and an apparatus which enables one to obtain definite non-modulo-2.pi.-dependent measurements wherein a method for the fiber-optic measurement of force, which is based upon the strain-induced birefringence of a single-mode light waveguide, provides a compensation method for the phase differences of two linear modes of the exiting light waves, which are caused by the force acting on the light waveguide and the consequent change in birefringence. In one embodiment of the method, a liquid crystal cell, the birefringence effect of which can be controlled electrically, is used as a compensation element. The maximum of an autocorrelation function, which occurs as an image, and the respective voltage at the liquid crystal cell, are evaluated as a measurement for the birefringence which is to be compensated for and, accordingly, for the effective force.

  • Patent number: 5308973
Abstract: A method and the device for fiber-optic measurement of the absolute value of the pretensioning in a highly loaded mechanical structural component part are based on the measurement of the phase displacement of a light wave caused by the strain-induced birefringence in a single-mode light waveguide 4 which is embedded between two metallic disks or washers 3a, 3b. Since the measurement results are ambiguous modulo-2.pi., serial or simultaneous measurement with two light wavelengths .lambda..sub.1, .lambda..sub.2 is used according to a first method variant of the invention. The quantity of 2.pi. periods can be unequivocally determined within a predetermined measuring range by means of comparing the two measurement results. The evaluation is preferably effected according to a quadrature or phase step method, known per se. According to second method variant, the light waveguide 4 is irradiated with polarized white light.

  • Patent number: 4903785
Abstract: A drilling and chiseling tool bit includes a tool bit head, an axially extending shank and an insertion end for insertion into a drilling or chiseling device. The shank extends between the tool bit head and the insertion end and is divided into individual axially aligned members. The individual shank members are held together by a retaining member which also interconnects the tool bit head and the insertion end. The tool bit head and insertion end are rotatable as a unit and are movable axially relative to one another. By dividing the shank axially, its individual members have a higher natural frequency and afford improved transmission of impact energy. As a result, preventing the excitation of natural vibrations in individual shank members, the vibration period is shorter compared to the impact transmission time period. Accordingly, the sound radiation from the tool bit is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4871033
Abstract: In a motor-driven hand tool, such as a drill, an inert mass is rotatably supported in a housing and is connected to the housing by a spring encircling a driven shaft mounted in the housing. The driven shaft is arranged to rotate a drill bit secured to the shaft. If the driven shaft is prevented from rotating and the housing rotates relative to the shaft, the spring tightens about and grips the driven shaft exerting a braking torque on it. The braking torque reduces the reaction torque required of the tool operator and affords a more rapid release of an overload clutch acting on the driven shaft. The overload clutch is formed by a collar, a gear wheel, a cup spring, and an adjustable ring nut, all located on the driven shaft.
