  • Patent number: 7517298
Abstract: A method for controlling a hybrid electric vehicle powertrain having an engine, a multiple-ratio transmission, a first electric machine and a second electric machine. On a power-on transmission downshift, electric wheel torque is used to compensate for a slow response of an engine to a request for increased traction wheel torque.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 2006
Date of Patent: April 14, 2009
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
    Inventor: Walter Ortmann
  • Patent number: 7464780
Abstract: A system, method and vehicle using the same for increasing regenerative power recovered during vehicle deceleration. The system includes first and second sets of vehicle wheels, a controller, an electric machine, a regenerative power source, and a driveline. The electric machine performs as a motor/generator in a first/second mode of operation, respectively. The regenerative power source is electrically coupled to the electric machine and is configured to supply/receive power to/from the electric machine when the electric machine is in the first/second mode of operation, respectively. The driveline is coupled to the electric machine and the first set of vehicle wheels for transferring torque. The driveline includes a controllable coupling apparatus in electronic communication with the controller for selectively coupling, during vehicle deceleration, the electric machine to the second set of vehicle wheels.

  • Patent number: 7322903
Abstract: A method is for controlling a rate of flow of cooling oil to a friction launch clutch and electric motor in a hybrid electric vehicle powertrain. The rate of flow is determined by changes in clutch temperature and motor temperature. Cooling oil flow in excess of the flow required to maintain a desired temperature is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20060135316
Abstract: A gear ratio shift control and control method controls gear ratio upshifts in a multiple-ratio transmission for an automotive vehicle. Pressure actuated friction elements establish torque flow paths in transmission gearing as they are selectively engaged and released. A net torque reduction at a transmission torque output shaft during an upshift event is reduced by increasing transmission input torque prior to the start of the inertia phase of the upshift event.
