  • Patent number: 7603969
Abstract: An automotive coolant pump has movable vanes, which are adjustable as to their orientation in accordance with the temperature of the coolant, whereby the rate of coolant flow through the pump impeller accords with coolant temperature. A thermal-actuator is operated by a thermal-sensor, and serves to rotate a vanes-drive-ring to cause the vanes to change orientation in unison. The cooling system includes a bypass-port, which is open during warmup and closed once coolant has acquired working temperatures; the same thermal-actuator serves also to operate the bypass-port-blocker. Additionally, the same thermal-actuator may serve also to operate a radiator-port-blocker, which serves to block flow through the radiator during engine warmup. The vanes may be arranged to close completely together, and to be sealed at closure. Sealing is effected e.g by elastomeric sealing elements arranged on the appropriate surfaces of the vanes.

  • Patent number: 6887046
Abstract: An impeller pump with thermostatically adjustable guide vanes is suitable for use as an automotive coolant pump. The pump is driven by a constant speed electric motor, and flow variation is controlled by varying the orientation of the vanes. Orientation of the vanes is effected by a wax-type thermostat, which senses coolant temperature: flow is increased when the coolant is hot, and decreased as the coolant cools. The variable guide vanes are mounted for pivoting about radial axes, and are located just upstream from the pump impeller.

  • Patent number: 6838674
Abstract: In a method for producing a detector array for detection of X-ray radiation, a stack is formed from a sequence of layers which are arranged one above the other in a stacking direction and are connected to one another. This results in a layer group, comprising at least one sensor layer composed of a material which is sensitive to that radiation and a separating layer, repeatedly. The stack is then broken down into slabs such that a row sequence in one slab reproduces the layer sequence in the stack. The slab is made contact with, optically or electrically, on at least one of its surface faces. The rows which are formed from the sensor layers in the slab are preferably subdivided by the introduction of separating spaces into individual sensor elements or pixels. A reflector material can be poured into the separating spaces. The method allows the production of relatively large quantities of one-dimensional or multidimensional detector arrays in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 6793857
Abstract: In order to produce a one- or multidimensional detector array (9; 15, 17; 70) for detecting electromagnetic radiation, in particular for detecting X-rays, a layer composite (1) is produced. The latter has a sensor layer (3) with a material (M) sensitive to the radiation, and a carrier layer (5). In order to subdivide the sensor layer (3) into individual elements (E11, E12, . . . E1m, E21, . . . Enm) that are isolated from one another, separating spaces (7) are introduced into the sensor layer (3) by material (M) being removed. Preferably, a reflector material (R) is introduced or filled into the separating spaces (7). In order to produce a plurality of one-dimensional detector arrays (70), a structure of elements (E11, E12, . . . E1m, E21, . . . Enm) arranged in a matrix-like manner, which structure is produced by the separating spaces (7) is broken down into row portions (52, 53, . . . 63) or into column portions.
