Patent number: 11091289Abstract: A container defining a longitudinal axis and a transverse direction that is transverse with respect to the longitudinal axis. The container includes a finish and a sidewall portion extending from the finish. A plurality of ribs are defined by the sidewall. A base portion extends from the sidewall portion and encloses the sidewall portion to form a volume therein for retaining a commodity. The base portion has a contact surface for supporting the container. A plurality of straps extend radially along the base portion away from the longitudinal axis in the transverse direction, each one of the straps defines a strap surface that is closer to the finish than the contact surface. The plurality of ribs and the base portion are configured to place the container in a state of hydraulic charge-up when top load is applied to the container after the container is filled.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2018Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: AMCOR RIGID PACKAGING USA, LLCInventors: Michael T. Lane, Walter Paegel, Peidong Han

Patent number: 10532848Abstract: A container including an opening defined by a finish portion, and a base at an end of the container opposite to the opening. The base includes a standing ring extending inward from a heal to a center pushup portion. The center pushup portion includes an pushup ring surrounding an inversion portion. In an as-blown position the inversion portion extends outward and beyond the pushup ring such that the inversion portion is further from the opening than the pushup ring. In a final position the inversion portion is inverted relative to the as-blown position such that the inversion portion extends inward so as to be closer to the opening than the pushup ring. The inversion portion is mechanically moved from the as-blown position to the filled position with an inversion device after the container has been filled to reduce vacuum or increase pressure within the container.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2016Date of Patent: January 14, 2020Assignee: AMCOR RIGID PLASTICS USA, LLCInventors: Michael T. Lane, Walter Paegel, Peidong Han

Patent number: 7510677Abstract: Injection molding method and apparatus for ejecting a molded plastic article from a mold. A lifting structure and/or step is provided with a lifting portion which is configured to contact substantially one half of an end of the molded plastic article along a line substantially perpendicular to the lifting direction. Since the molded plastic article is lifted by its end, the article does not have to be solidified at its interior, thus allowing earlier removal of the article from the mold, reducing cycle time. A tapered surface forms an acute angle with respect to the lifting portion to form a tight seal with the mold, preventing leakage. Preferably, the neck ring engages only an outer circumferential portion of the molded plastic article during a majority of a mold opening stroke.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2006Date of Patent: March 31, 2009Assignee: Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd.Inventors: William E. Miller, Lingxin Dong, Frank Favot, Michael Marshall, Walter Paegel, Randy Yakimishyn
