  • Patent number: 5577400
Abstract: An improved knitting assembly for producing patterned knitted fabric includes a needle assembly having a handle portion and a plurality of needle tips associated with the handle portion and arranged in a spaced, selectively determined order. At least one of the needle tips has predetermined and distinct operational and nonoperational positions, whereby the order of the needles may be effectively reconfigured by selectively positioning the needle tips in desired operational or nonoperational positions. The assembly further preferably includes a plurality of detachably connected independent handle portions, and the order of needle tips may be changed by detaching the handle portions, rearranging the handle portions, and reattaching the handle portions in the new order. The knitting assembly also preferably includes a hook assembly for creating purl stitches.

  • Patent number: 4246768
Abstract: Apparatus for manually producing knitted fabrics comprises a base member having a series of upright knitting support members arranged around an outer edge of the base member and a support surface disposed inwardly of and adjacent to the support members. Slots are provided either along the sides of or through the middle of the support members, the slots extending downward to a location below the support surface. A needle includes an arched portion and two yarn-threading eyes, one eye located at the forward end of the needle, the other located at the crest of the arched portion, and is adapted to be inserted into the slot such that a loop of yarn supported by the support surface and surrounding the support member can be forced to ride onto the needle beyond the crest of the arch from a location on the inward-facing side of the support member, the needle being inserted into the slot from the outward facing side of the support member.
