Publication number: 20240240458Abstract: A steep slope roofing panel system includes an underlayment and a plurality of roofing panels installed atop the underlayment. The panels may be installed to provide both protection from the environment and watershedding. Alternatively, the panels and the underlayment may share the watershedding functions of the roof, with one as a primary watershedding component and the other as an auxiliary watershedding component. The roofing system may be custom manufactured off-site based upon predetermined measurements and characteristics of a roof and its protrusions. Alternatively, the roofing system may be custom manufactured at the job site based upon such measurements and characteristics. Each panel may be assigned to a location on the roof and may include imprinted instructions regarding cutting and/or bending the panel to form flashing, drip edges, or other features, as well as the panel's location and installation sequence on the roof.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2024Publication date: July 18, 2024Inventors: Eric R. Anderson, Walter R. Zarate

Publication number: 20240167286Abstract: A vent is disclosed for use in ventilating attic spaces beneath a hip roof. The vent is configured to be installed along a hip of the roof overlying and covering a ventilation slot. The vent includes an elongated laterally flexible top panel from which baffle arrays depend. The baffle arrays include a plurality of curved vanes that arc away from the slot. The vanes are configured to redirect wind-blown rain and snow away from the slot and block the migration of rain and snow through the vent. Filler strips can be attached beneath the edge portions of the vent. The filler strips conform to underlying shingles when the vent is installed to fill gaps that might be formed between the vent and the shingles. A weather filter can be positioned over some of the baffle arrays to allow attic air to pass but prevent ingress of blown snowflakes and raindrops.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2024Publication date: May 23, 2024Inventors: Tim Manasterski, Walter R. Zarate, Sudhir S. Railkar, Jeffrey Avitabile, Peter Campbell

Patent number: 11920351Abstract: A vent is disclosed that is particularly suited to use in ventilating attic spaces beneath a hip roof. The vent is configured to be installed along a hip of the roof overlying and covering a ventilation slot formed through the roof deck along the hip. The vent includes an elongated laterally flexible top panel from which baffle arrays depend. The baffle arrays are formed of a plurality of depending arcuately curved vanes that arc away from the vent. The vanes are aerodynamically shaped to redirect wind-blown rain and snow away from the vent and are configured to block the migration of rain and snow through the vent. A pair of spongy conformable filler strips is attached beneath the edge portions of the vent. The filler strips conform to the shapes of underlying shingles when the vent is installed to fill any gaps that otherwise might be formed between the vent and the shingles.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2022Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: BMIC LLCInventors: Tim Manasterski, Walter R.
