  • Patent number: 5865944
Abstract: Apparatus for directly applying a liquid or pasty medium onto a moving paper or board web. A flexible endless loop rotating belt is supported by guide rolls in the loop. A shoe in the loop has a convexly curved surface over which the belt is guided and the web is carried over the belt as it passes the guide surface of the shoe. Toward the upstream end of the shoe, a predosing apparatus applies a medium to the web. Toward the downstream end of the shoe, a final dosing blade doses the medium applied to the web. The shoe has a region, at least at the upstream region thereof, the cross-sectional profile of which is adjustable, and that adjustment is enabled section by section zone-wise across the width of the web.

  • Patent number: 5120402
Abstract: An expansion member which extends transversely over the width of a paper making machine, particularly at the breast box of the paper machine, which member furthermore serves to change the position of a structural part, like a ledge or diaphragm. The member is subdivided, transverse to the machine direction, into a plurality of cells each of which can be acted on by pressure. The cells are separated from each other by vertical partition walls of high stretchability and are further defined by transverse walls extending transverse to the machine direction and joining the partition walls. At least one transverse wall or a further wall outside of and connected with the one transverse wall is highly stretchable in the regions of the transverse or further walls which are at the individual partition walls, as compared with the other regions of the transverse wall or the thereto connected further wall.

  • Patent number: 5090535
Abstract: The invention concerns a drive unit, particularly for a calender of a paper machine, with a universal joint featuring two joint forms as well as a crosshead, with a shaft each coordinated with the two joint forks, one shaft being arranged on the drive side and the other on the output side (drive shaft and output shaft), additionally, with a clutch for engaging and disengaging the drive unit. The invention is characterized by the following characteristics:(a) The clutch is fashioned as a gear clutch with a number of teeth extending in axial direction and coordinated each with one of the clutch halves;(b) for actuation of the clutch there is a shift mechanism provided;(c) coordinated with the universal joint is a guide device, for instance a cylindrical sleeve, for guiding the universal joint along with the extendable clutch half on its shift path in the clutch process.
