  • Publication number: 20110127174
Abstract: The invention relates to a storage tank for storing a sorbent material. Said storage tank comprises a pressure vessel, a connecting element to an external supply system, at least on sorbent material which contains a sorbent and an adsorbate that adsorbs thereto, especially a gaseous fuel, preferably hydrogen, and which is stored in the storage tank at least during proper use of the storage tank, and a conduit for feeding and/or discharging sorbent material into/from the storage tank. At least one second duct is provided for supplying and/or evacuating a gas (gas duct). The sorbent is formed on the basis of heavy-duty adsorbents based on activated carbon in the form of discrete, activated carbon grains, preferably spherical ones. At least 70 percent of the entire pore volume of the heavy-duty adsorbents are formed by microspores having a diameter of ?20.

  • Publication number: 20080020250
Abstract: The invention concerns, among other things, a storage system (40) for storing a medium, particularly an adsorption storage system for adsorbing a medium, comprising a storage vessel (10) inside of which a storage material (30) for storing, particularly for adsorbing a medium, is provided, and comprising a vessel connection (15) for loading/emptying the storage vessel (10). In order to be able to realize an efficient supply of energy and/or removal of energy, the invention provides that at least one circulation circuit (41) is provided for the storage medium by means of which a removal of energy and/or supply of energy ensues in the storage vessel (10). In addition, the storage medium serves as an energy carrier, and the storage vessel (10) is at least temporarily integrated in the circulation circuit (41). The invention also relates to a method for loading a storage system (40) with a storage medium and emptying the same therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6541974
Abstract: A device for measuring the filling level of a medium—for example hydrogen—in a storage container of a storage device—for example a tank system. To provide a simple and direct possible way of accurately determining the filling level of the storage container even without knowing the amount of medium already discharged or irrespective of uncontrollable losses, the device is designed as a measuring device for measuring the nuclear magnetic resonance of the medium located in the storage container. For this purpose, the device has a measuring head with, for example, a permanent magnet and a measuring coil, via which a static magnetic field and an electromagnetic alternating field are generated in the measuring head. The electromagnetic alternating field is generated in a transmitter, which is connected to the measuring head by a bridge circuit.

  • Patent number: 6432176
Abstract: A closed storage reservoir has at least one feed and discharge line for compressed gas and, in its interior, a gas flow control system which connects the feed and discharge line to a solid filling for storing the compressed gas in the interior. To ensure the highest possible specific storage capacity of the device and to enable the device to be used as a tank system for a fuel cell, the solid filling comprises carbon nanostructures which are joined to form larger, cohesive conglomerates. A device for measuring the filling level of the compressed gas in the storage vessel may be a device for measuring the nuclear magnetic resonance or a device for measuring the mass flow rates of the compressed gas. A temperature sensor and a heating/cooling device having an inlet connection piece and an outlet connection piece for a heating/cooling medium and a cooling passage connected to the connection pieces are provided in order to set a defined temperature in the storage vessel.

  • Patent number: 6309449
Abstract: A gas accumulator for storing pressurized gases, in particular gaseous fuels such as hydrogen or the like, which gas accumulator has a sealed vessel which is provided with a valve-actuated feed line and outlet line for the pressurized gas and with a solid packing of carbon nanostructures. To increase the storage capacity of a gas accumulator of this type significantly, the particles of the carbon nanostructures are compacted to form larger coherent conglomerates having an apparent density which is increased in comparison with the apparent density of the originally loose particles. The compaction can be carried out, for example, by ordering the carbon nanostructures in their orientation to one another, or else by forming the conglomerates by pressing non-ordered carbon nanostructures.
