  • Patent number: 4716068
Abstract: Disclosed is an adhesive tape based on a co-extruded, three-layer polypropylene base film which has been biaxially stretch-oriented in at least three stages and has been subjected on at least one side to corona treatment. The base film comprises a base layer and two covering layers. The base layer comprises polypropylene. The covering layer adjacent the adhesive layer includes polypropylene modified with a natural or synthetic resin having a softening point of about 70.degree. to 170.degree. C., and the other covering layer includes polypropylene modified with a diorganopolysiloxane. The new adhesive tape possesses high values of mechanical properties. The tape has good printability, and it does not contain an adhesion-promoting layer for the adhesive, nor a separating layer (release coat), since such layers are not required. The tape can also be processed without appreciable draw-off noises.

  • Patent number: 4568616
Abstract: This invention pertains to a polyester composition containing finely divided polymer particles in a substantially homodisperse distribution. The polymer particles are prepared in an emulsion-polymerization process and are crosslinked. The polymer particles exhibit an extremely narrow grain-size distribution and are incorporated into the polyester during the synthesis thereof. The invention also relates to films, particularly stretched films, which are produced from the polyester composition and which can also be used as base films for the production of composite films. It is additionally also possible to produce filaments and fibers from the composition according to the invention or with the addition of this composition to other polymers. The films are preferably used as bases for magnetic recording elements or for capacitors, and fiber or filaments are employed in the production of tire cord.

  • Patent number: 4563231
Abstract: Disclosed is a tubular casing of fiber-reinforced regenerated cellulose comprising a film web which is curved to form a tube. The edge regions of the film web, which run parallel to the longitudinal axis, abut or overlap slightly and are sealed by means of a film strip which covers both the edge regions. The film web and the film strip composed of the same material have, in the wet remoistened stage, a breaking strength of about 15 to 30 N/mm.sup.2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the longitudinal direction of the web, and a breaking strength of about 15 to 35 N/mm.sup.2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the transverse direction of the web. The breaking strength in the transverse direction of the web is equal to or greater than that in the longitudinal direction of the web. On its entire surface facing the film strip, the tubular casing has a substantially gas-impermeable and sealable layer, as has the film strip on the surface which comes into contact with the tubular casing.

  • Patent number: 4557955
Abstract: The invention relates to films and tubular structures which are selectively permeable to liquids and gases which are based on a copolymer composed of a copolymerized fluorinated olefin, copolymerized vinyl acetate and, optionally, a copolymerized olefin. It is possible for the acetate groups of the copolymer to have been saponified to form OH groups. The films or tubular structures have in each case an inherent, latent capacity for modifying their structure and are at the same time oleophobic and oleophilic. The invention also embraces processes for the preparation of the shaped articles described and processes for modifying their structure. The invention also relates to the use of shaped articles according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 4524155
Abstract: The present invention relates to molded articles of an open-cell structure, containing a copolymer which is comprised of copolymerized, fluorinated olefin, copolymerized vinyl acetate and optionally copolymerized olefin, the acetate groups of the copolymer being optionally saponified into OH groups. The molded articles possess an inherent latent structural convertibility and have effective pores of a diameter in the range from 0.002 to 10 .mu.m. The invention further includes processes for the preparation of the specified molded articles and processes for converting their structure. The invention also relates to several uses of molded articles according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 4401135
Abstract: A tubular casing for foodstuffs, in particular sausages, comprising a web (4) which is curved along its longitudinal axis and having its longitudinal edge regions (1, 2) bonded by a glued seam. The edge regions (1, 2) meet or overlap and are bonded with a strip of film (6). A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used for the bonding. The tubular casing carries an adhesion-promoting layer (5) on the surface adjacent to the adhesive layer (3). Preferably, the strip of film and the edge regions of the web are comprised of a smoke-permeable material, and optionally the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers also have a smoke-permeable structure, such as perforations. The tubular casing can also be shirred.

  • Patent number: 4116222
Abstract: A process and apparatus for collecting solar energy involving exposing a mixture of a fluid carrier and heat absorbing particles to the rays of the sun in a container having a transparent cover facing the rays of the sun, and circulating the mixture to a thermal accumulator or sink. The fluid may be a liquid or gas, or a mixture of liquid and gas; and the particles preferably have a specific gravity different from that of the carrier so they naturally separate if circulation of the mixture stops. The container is dimensioned so that, upon separation of the particles, they no longer are exposed through the transparent surface of the container. Mixture flow control means are provided within the container.
