Abstract: Haloalcohols of the general formula IHal--X--OH (I)where X is straight-chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted alkylene of 4 or more carbon atoms in the chain, which may be interrupted by one or more heteroatoms, and Hal is halogen, are prepared by reacting a diol of the general formula IIHO--X--OH (II)where X has the above meanings, with an aqueous hydrogen halide solution in a water-immiscible organic solvent which is inert under the reaction conditions, at from 50.degree. to 150.degree. C., using an excess of hydrogen halide, based on the diol of the general formula II, of from 10 to 200 mole percent and setting a volume ratio of inorganic phase: organic phase of from 1:2 to 1:50.

Abstract: Agent for controlling the peach twig borer, Anarsia lineatella, by the confusion technique containing a mixture of E5-decen-1-ol (I), E5-decen-1-yl acetate (II) and Z5-decen-1-ol (III) and Z5-decen-1-yl acetate (IV), the amount of the Z isomers (III) and (IV) being up to 50% by weight, based on the mixture (I) to (IV), and, if required, conventional additives and assistants.

Abstract: Dien-1-ols of the general formula I ##STR1## where the radicals R.sup.1 to R.sup.7 are identical to or different from one another and each is hydrogen or straight-chain or branched alkyl of 1-12 carbon atoms and n is 1-14, are prepared by dehydrating a hydroxyalkenyl tert-butyl ether of the formula II ##STR2## in the presence of an acidic catalyst at elevated temperatures and essentially at the same time splitting off the tert-butyl protective group, as is 9-hydroxydodec-10-enyl 1-tert-butyl ether which is useful as an intermediate for synthesizing 8,10-dodecadienol.

Abstract: 1,1-dialkoxy- or 1,1-(.alpha.,.omega.-methylenedioxy)-non-2-yn-9-ol and their OH-protected derivatives of the general formula I ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl or together form an alkylene chain of 2 to 5 carbon atoms and X is hydrogen or a protective group which can be eliminated, their preparation and their use as intermediates.

Abstract: Alkenecarboxylates of the formula I ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and n is 2, 3 or 4, are prepared by a process which comprises reacting a lactone of the formula II ##STR2## where R.sub.2 is hydrogen or methyl and m is 1 or 2, with an alkanol of 1 to 6 carbon atoms in the presence of an acidic catalyst at from 150.degree. to 400.degree. C.

Abstract: An olefinically unsaturated compound, in particular a very pure cis-isomer of an alkenylhydroxy compound of the formulaCH.sub.3 (CH.sub.2).sub.m --CH.dbd.CH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --OR (I),where R is hydrogen or a protective group which can virtually be eliminated, m is from 1 to 12 and n is from 1 to 10, is obtained by catalytic partial hydrogenation of the corresponding acetylene derivative over a supported catalyst which contains from 0.05 to 5% by weight of palladium and from 0.05 to 15% by weight of zinc and/or cadmium.

Abstract: O,S-dialkyl S-[carbamyloxyalkyl] dithiophosphates of the general formula (I) ##STR1## where, independently of one another, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each alkyl of not more than 4 carbon atoms and R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are each hydrogen or alkyl of not more than 6 carbon atoms, or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, form a saturated or olefinically unsaturated ring which contains not more than 6 carbon atoms and may or may not contain one or more oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atoms, are used for controlling insects or mites.
