  • Patent number: 4265293
Abstract: In a tire and rim assembly a high pressure pneumatic tube tire formed of a single closed toroidal ply the cords of which are angled to the circumferential direction of the tire and a single belt ply of opposite and lower angle to the circumferential direction of the tire. Anchoring means may be included to promote lateral stability and to provide engagement with the rim. Alternatively, the anchoring means may be eliminated by bonding the tire to the rim. The tire may be assembled on a conventional cylindrical tire building drum or upon the rim itself.

  • Patent number: 4253511
Abstract: A tire and a tire and rim assembly. The rim comprises a pair of annular support members extending axially outwardly of a pair of bead seat surfaces. The axial width of a tread of the tire is greater than the axial distance between the annular support members. A plurality of sidewall appendages are connected on the exterior surfaces of the sidewalls of the tire such that they are spaced apart from the annular support members when the tire is inflated and in supporting contact with the annular support members when the tire is uninflated and under load. The sidewall appendages extend radially and axially along the sidewalls such distances that when the tire is uninflated and under normal load, the support members support the sidewall appendages to maintain the shape of the sidewalls substantially the same as when the tire is under normal inflation pressure and load.

  • Patent number: 4248286
Abstract: A safety support mounted on a rim inside a tire chamber to resiliently support the tread portion of the tire in the deflated condition and maintain the bead portions of the tire in a separated condition. The support is in the form of a ring member of flexible resilient material with an inner portion at the inner periphery having a diameter not greater than the diameter of the rim and a width substantially the same distance between the bead portions when mounted on the rim. The ring member also has an outer portion at the outer periphery with an outer diameter less than the diameter of the tread portion of the tire in the inflated condition and greater than the diameter of the bead portions. The outer portion and inner portion of the ring member are connected by an intermediate portion which includes a plurality of radially extending webs spaced apart circumferentially of the ring member. The outer portion and inner portion are reinforced by annular plies which may be of bias fabric and helically wound cords.

  • Patent number: 4142930
Abstract: A very large off-the-road type tire having a plurality of bead cores and a plurality of bias laid carcass plies, which when in the configuration in which it was cured has a section height which is substantially less than the section height of the tire when inflated and an axial bead spacing which is substantially greater than the axial bead spacing when the tire is mounted on a rim and inflated.

  • Patent number: 4077455
Abstract: A radial ply tire and rim assembly in which the tire has an aspect ratio of less than 70 percent and a bead spacing of no greater than 65 percent of the maximum axial width of the inflated tire. The rim has a pair of axially extending flanges which engage the lower sidewall of the tire and distort the carcass from its natural equilibrium curvature without causing any reversal of curvature of the carcass.

  • Patent number: 4034789
Abstract: A pneumatic tire comprising a carrying case and a removable tread ring having an armor member resistant to tension in the longitudinal direction of said tread ring, said tread ring containing a layer of see-through elastomer covering the inside of the armor, a nondiscoloring polyurethane being the preferred see-through elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4030530
Abstract: A tire for off-the-road vehicles. The tire is designed for a removable tread, or a lugged, metal traction band. A pair of detachable resilient shields are maintained adjacent the upper sidewalls of the tire to protect this critical area of the tire from punctures.
