  • Patent number: 5247142
Abstract: A circuit interrupter includes an arc chute containing high temperature refractory coated side walls. The high temperature refractory material may include a thinner material. The side walls comprise materials such as cotton fiber, wood fiber, phenolic material or fiberglass. The refractory material may be selected from the group of aluminum oxide, sodium silicate or zirconium oxide. The refractory coating is applied to the side walls and allowed to dry, filling gaps between side wall and arc plates, thereby improving the side walls' ability to withstand high temperature arcing, and eliminate voltage loss through the filled gaps.
