  • Publication number: 20080100413
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to light sources that have variable and adjustable luminous intensities. According to certain preferred embodiments of the invention, devices are provided that generally comprise (1) a conductive elastomeric material that is located between a first and second conductive surface; (2) a power source operably connected to the first conductive surface; and (3) a light source operably connected to the second conductive surface. In such embodiments, the conductive elastomeric material comprises an electrical resistance that decreases when the material is compressed or contacts a greater surface area of the first or second conductive surface. By modulating the compression state of the elastomeric material (and, therefore, the ohmic resistance thereof), the amount of electrical power transmitted from the power source to the light source is controlled, which in turn affects the luminous intensity of the light emitted therefrom.

  • Patent number: 7366290
Abstract: A billing method and billing system to determine usage fees which are charged to the user of a digital telecommunications network, whereby a usage fee charged for a connection is determined prior to establishing this connection from statistical characteristics of previous connections of the user, is described. Usage fees are determined from a dynamic client profile, derived from one or multiple random variables of previous connections of the user, which is stored in memory and re-derived after each new customer connection. In a simple variant, the client profile contains a value proportional to the average price per connection or to the average duration of a connection of the user. The random variables used to derive the client profile include, for example, the connection duration, the time of day, the day of the week, and/or geographic characteristics of previous connections.

  • Patent number: 7365848
Abstract: A system and method are used to increase alignment accuracy of feature patterns through detection of alignment patterns on both a surface layer and at least one below surface layers of an object. Visible light is used to detect alignment patterns on the surface layer and infrared light is used to detect patterns one layers below the surface. For example, reflected visible light and transmitted infrared light are co-focused onto detector after impinging on respective alignment patterns. The co-focused light is then used to determine proper alignment of the object for subsequent pattern features. This substantially increases accuracy of alignment of pattern features between layers, as compared to conventional systems.

  • Patent number: 7366659
Abstract: Time-scaled, sound signals (i.e. sounds output at differing speeds) are generated by mixing weighted time-and frequency-domain processed signals, the former signal generally representing speech-based signals while the latter representing music-based signals. The weights applied to each type of signal may be determined by a scaling factor, which in turn is related to the desired speed at which a listener desires to hear a sound signal. In one example of the invention, only stationary signal portions of an input sound signal are used to generate time-scaled processed signals. An adaptive frame-size may also be used to pre-process the separate signals prior to being weighted, which at least decreases the amount of unwanted reverberative sound qualities in a resulting sound signal. Together, techniques envisioned by the present invention produce improved, speed adjusted sound signals.
