  • Patent number: 6053561
Abstract: An improved door assembly for a motor vehicle, especially a pick-up truck having a rear window, whereby the outer panel of the of the rear door is fabricated to form parts of both the side and rear surfaces of the body portion of the vehicle. An operating clearance needed for opening and closing the rear door assembly is positioned on the rear of the vehicle so as to improve the appearance of the vehicle when the vehicle is viewed from the side. The operating clearance on the rear of the vehicle can be positioned to coincide with the frame of a window set into the body of the vehicle to partially obscure the operating clearance when viewing the vehicle from the rear. With specific reference to a pick-up truck, further obscuring of the operating clearance can be obtained by positioning the operating clearance below the window frame behind the bed of the pick-up truck. A plurality of hinges are used to attach the rear door to the body of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6053261
Abstract: A simple and economical device is placed in a drill string to provide a pulsating flow of the pressurized drilling fluid to the jets of the drill bit to enhance chip removal and provide a vibrating action in the drill bit itself thereby to provide a more efficient and effective drilling operation. Operation of the device is such that a pronounced negative pulse precedes the positive pulse. Between pulses there is a short time delay and this feature will further enhance drilling rates. Device automatically bypasses all fluid if it is disabled.

  • Patent number: 6053334
Abstract: A fuel filter comprises a head (96) having an inlet (100) and an outlet (102). The head is connection to an element (266) by a nipple portion (186) which has a valve element (196) therein. An actuating projection (222, 272) is engageable with said valve element to open flow through said nipple portion when the correct element is attached hereto. The actuating projection is further supported on a central portion (220, 276) which prevents connection to a nipple portion that extends too far into the element. According to a further embodiment, the filter includes a housing (412) with a removable element (424) mounted therein. The housing has an inlet port (414) in direct fluid communication with a chamber (418). The outlet port (416) is in direct fluid communication with a central standpipe (422). The standpipe has a flow element (442) movable therein for controlling the condition of flow openings (436) in the standpipe.

  • Patent number: 6055408
Abstract: A printer for printing endless paper webs on both sides has two printing stations with a web turnover station therebetween. The paper web is fed in parallel side-by-side to the two printing stations which are on the same rollers. The drive of the web through the printer is by a positive drive, using pins to engage holes in the paper web, for example, into the first printing station. The drive of the paper web thereafter is by friction drive to permit slippage in the drive to compensate for variations in paper length during heating, etc. The slippage is controlled by brakes or other drag inducing devices acting on one or both of the two portions of the paper web.

  • Patent number: 6052956
Abstract: A sheet of light transmitting polycarbonate is vacuum-formed to produce a lower skylight glazing or pane, a surrounding curb portion and a surrounding flange or flashing portion projecting outwardly from the curb portion. The curb portion has a peripheral rim surface and a lower step surface, and an upper pane of glass or plastic has a peripheral portion sealed to the rim surface. Additional panes of plastic sheets may be sealed to the peripheral portion of the upper pane and to the step surface to provide increased thermal insulation. Parallel ribs are formed in the flashing portion, and strips of rigid plastic insulation foam and wood trim are bonded by adhesive to each other and to the inner surfaces of the curb portion.

  • Patent number: 6051485
Abstract: A method of producing a platinum-metal structure or pattern on a substrate, which includes the steps of applying a silicon oxide layer to the substrate; applying a mask to the silicon oxide layer which is formed with an opening at a location thereof at which the platinum-metal structure or pattern is to be produced; etching the silicon oxide layer so that the substrate surface area exposed by the opening formed in the mask is larger than the opening in the mask; applying a platinum-metal layer to the mask and the exposed substrate surface area; and removing the silicon oxide layer in an etching process, so that the platinum metal present on the mask is removed simultaneously therewith, and the platinum metal present on the substrate surface forms the platinum-metal pattern or structure.

  • Patent number: 6051656
Abstract: An elastomeric acrylate copolymer which contains, as polymerized units, comonomers having chemically reactive groups is prepared for the preparation of molding materials having good weathering resistance, improved impact strength and good flow properties. This copolymer is dissolved or swollen in monomers such as styrene and acrylonitrile, forming hard graft shells. After the addition of monomers and/or polymers having chemically reactive groups and, if required, after the addition of a chemically reactive crosslinking agent, the resulting monomer/copolymer mixture is subjected to graft polymerization, which is carried out up to a conversion of more than 15% by weight of the monomers, by thermal or free radical mass or solution polymerization. The molding materials can be used as dulling agents for polymer blends.

  • Patent number: 6052620
Abstract: An implantable anti-tachyarrhythmia device which delivers anti-tachyarrhythmia therapies to a patient's heart in response to detection of tachyarrhythmias. The device defines first criteria indicating the presence of atrial tachycardia and second criteria indicating the presence of atrial fibrillation, and compares the time elapsed since the either the first or second criteria were initially met to a defined time duration. In response to the defined duration having passed and either of the first or second criteria being met, the device triggers delivery of an appropriate anti-tachyarrhythmia therapy. The timer is reset on detection of termination of atrial tachyarrhythmia, but not on failure of the first and second criteria to be met. The first and second criteria are defined such that they can not be concurrently met.
