  • Publication number: 20210100122
Abstract: An electronic device with a sealing layer is disclosed. The sealing layer may include several enhancements designed to improve the overall sealing performance. For instance, the sealing layer may include an adhesive material and several particles embedded in the adhesive material. The embedded particles may include liquid-activated particles that respond to liquid exposure. In some instances, the liquid-activated particles absorb the liquid. Additionally, the liquid-activated particles may expand and fill/cover areas previously occupied by the sealing layer or another structure of the electronic device. Further, the liquid-activated particles may adhere to one or more structures of the electronic device, thereby providing the sealing layer with sealing properties.

  • Patent number: 8169727
Abstract: This application discloses a hard disk drive and a disk employing Discrete Tracks each including a land with a groove at a first depth with sectors of each track separated by servo pattern wedges with a variable second land and a variable second groove possessing widths and a second depth for the grooves differing from the first widths and depth of the groove of the sectors. The second depth optimizes the stability of the flying height of a slider over both sectors and servo pattern wedges, removing the possibility of added vibrational modes adversely affecting the slider's normal operations of reading, writing and flying above the disk surface. This also discloses the disks and their manufacture of disk surfaces with these sector zones and servo pattern wedges.

A slider having a read/write head element on a trailing edge (TE) portion is also provided, the slider coupled with the suspension. In addition, an increased dynamic pitch of the slider is provided, the increased dynamic pitch increasing the height of a leading edge (LE) portion of the slider with respect to the disk and reducing the height of the TE portion of the slider with respect to the disk, wherein vertical motion of the TE portion does not collapse an air bearing provided by the LE of the slider flying above the disk.

  • Publication number: 20080212235
Abstract: A slider for magnetic data recording. The slider has an air bearing surface with a trailing edge pad that is configured with a series of recesses that damp slider oscillations during use. The series of recesses formed in the trailing pad of the slider reduce slider oscillations by creating localized pressure gradients within the generally high pressure area over the pad. The slider can be configured with a raised primary pad and a secondary raised pad formed on the primary raised pad. A series of recesses formed in the secondary pad prevent slider oscillations, which would otherwise be especially problematic in a slider having such a secondary raised pad and associated higher pressure area thereover.

  • Patent number: 7352530
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing a suspension gram load to increase head to disk interface reliability for contact recording systems. The method provides a suspension for reaching over a disk. A slider having a read/write head element on a trailing edge (TE) portion is also provided, the slider coupled with the suspension. In addition, a gram load of the suspension is reduced to minimize the friction force during contact of the TE with the disk such that when the TE portion of the slider contacts the disk the bouncing motion of the TE with respect to the disk is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7345850
Abstract: An apparatus and method for utilizing an off-center gimbal to increase head to disk interface reliability for contact recording systems. The method provides a suspension for reaching over a disk. A slider having a read/write head element on a trailing edge (TE) portion is also provided, the slider coupled with the suspension. In addition, an off-center gimbal device is coupled with the slider and the suspension away from the center of the slider and closer to the TE portion of the slider such that when the TE portion of the slider contacts a disk a bouncing motion of the TE with respect to the disk is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7146710
Abstract: A method for creating a hard drive includes installing a slider in a disk drive having at least one disk lubricated with a first stage lubricant. The slider is designed to be in contact with the disk at initial use. The slider is burnished. A second stage lubricant is added to the disk after the burnishing step. The first stage lubricant provides less lubrication than the second stage lubricant, allowing the slider to be burnished in a controllable manner during the burnishing step. The second stage lubricant then provides lubrication to the disk during use by the end consumer.

  • Patent number: 7119979
Abstract: A method for measuring the clearance of a slider over a rotating disk by inducing a collision between the slider and the disk is described. After the normal flying height of the slider is established, the slider is driven into a collision with the rotating disk surface by applying a DC or AC voltage between the slider and the disk. The clearance data can be extracted from the induced collision by measuring a parameter, such as the change in the amplitude of the readback signal from the magnetic sensor, which is related to fly-height at the normal fly-height and at the disk surface. The two data points can then be used to derive the clearance. One embodiment uses a single beam interferometer to derive the vibrational displacement of the collision event.
