  • Publication number: 20110153022
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an inflatable annulus repair device (10) for sealing an annulus defect located in an annulus fibrosis of an intervertebral disc space. In use, the inflatable device is introduced, in a first non-expanded state, preferably via a cannula (100) into the annulus defect. After the inflatable device has been properly positioned, a filler material (11) is injected into the inflatable device to expand the device to a second expanded state. In the second expanded state, the inflatable annulus repair device seals the annulus defect, secures its position within the annulus defect to thereby limit or prevent migration, and applies a compression force to a captured portion of the annulus adjacent to the defect. The inflatable device is preferably filled with a liquid that solidifies into an elastic material within the device.

The interbody spacer including a central axis, a lateral axis, a top surface positioned generally parallel to the central axis and a plurality of hinge sections extending generally perpendicular to the central axis. A plurality of notches making up the plurality of hinge sections adjacent the top surface that permit the interbody spacer to flex. The interbody spacer further including a groove extending along a lateral side surface, generally parallel to the central axis. An insertion instrument includes a proximal end, a distal end and a tongue extending from the proximal end to the distal end along a non-linear path. • Publication number: 20110098747
Abstract: Arcuate fixation members with varying configurations and/or features are provided, along with additional components for use therewith in provided fixation systems and intervertebral implant systems. The arcuate fixation members may be of varying lengths, cross sectional geometries, and/or cross sectional areas, and may be configured with various features such as heads configured to accept other fixation system components, tabs to allow arcuate fixation member-in-arcuate fixation member or fixation anchor-in-arcuate fixation member configurations. Applications of fixation systems and intervertebral implants systems utilizing arcuate fixation members are particularly suitable when a linear line-of-approach for delivering fixation members is undesirable.

  • Publication number: 20110082504
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an inflated interspinous spacer. The interspinous spacer is inserted into the interspinous space between adjacent spinous process in a deflated or unexpanded state, and is inflated or expanded with an injectable filler material. Upon inflation, the spacer preferably distracts the spinous processes and assumes a shape that retains the spacer in position and preferably mechanically locks with the spinous processes. The spacer includes two separate balloons configured to have different compressive modulus so that one balloon is softer and more deformable than the other balloon.

  • Publication number: 20110077667
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for suture-based tissue repair, preferably for the annulus of a spinal disc, that includes a suture loop preferably pre-tied with a sliding knot, a clasp-type component that captures the ends of the suture loop, and an optional plug member that fills the tissue defect. Also disclosed is a method that places the suture loop in a full-thickness stitch encircling the tissue defect, secures the ends of the suture loop to the clasp, and cinches the suture loop to approximate the tissue without the need to tie knots. Also disclosed is a suture passer that enables a suture strand or loop to be passed through the tissue wall, captured, and retrieved. The suture passer may optionally incorporate a clasp in such an arrangement that enables a suture loop passed through the tissue wall to be captured directly by the clasp.

  • Publication number: 20110071551
Abstract: A soft tissue repair system includes a needle, a sheath, and a actuator. The needle has a body and a tip that extends distally from the body. The body defines a longitudinal channel configured to hold a plurality of suture anchors, and an ejection port proximal to the tip. The needle is configured to receive and hold a strand of suture. The sheath is disposed coaxially around the exterior of the needle, and is translatable with respect to the needle between a first position, and a second position. The actuator is translatable within the needle channel and is configured to push the suture anchors distally such that a first suture anchor of the plurality of suture anchors engages the suture strand held by the needle and sheath.
