Patent number: 8660061Abstract: A wireless local area network that carries mixed traffic of voice and data communications may be provided. The wireless local area network may include an access point and a plurality of remote terminals that are associated with the access point. The access point may be operably coupled to a wireline network. The access point may receive voice and other communications packets from the remote terminals and the wireline network. Some of the packets may be for transmission to the remote terminals. The access point manages which packets to transmit and when to transmit packets. The access point may manage traffic to maintain a fair distribution of packets and to give priority to voice communications over other communications.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2001Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert E Beach, Jason T Harris, Richard C Montgomery, Wanda Sealander

Patent number: 7966045Abstract: A wireless local area network audio and video communication system with mobile units is provided, wherein mobile units are operated in a power saving mode and become active at selected intervals corresponding to the duration of audio and video signals forming audio and video data packets. In a preferred arrangement the mobile units have a digital signal processor that operates at different clock rates during different portions of the intervals.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2008Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert Beach, Ramesh Sekhar, Wanda Sealander

Publication number: 20090010187Abstract: A system an adaptive access point node includes (a) a switch disposed within a network, the network comprising at least one virtual local area network; (b) an anchor access point disposed in the at least one virtual local area network, the anchor access point connected to the switch via a data path, the anchor access point configured to receive a broadcast data packet from the switch via the data path; and (c) at least one access point connected to the anchor access point via a local data path to receive the broadcast data packet from the anchor access point via the local data path. The anchor access point and the access points further forward the broadcast data packet to other devices connected thereto.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2008Publication date: January 8, 2009Inventors: Somesh Agarwal, Frances Lee, Ilya Minkin, Andrea Giuseppe Palisca, Jeelan Poola, Vinay Rajagopal, Wanda Sealander, Ramesh Sekhar, Jacob Thomas

Patent number: 6069911Abstract: A packet data transmission system is disclosed in which remote units, such as remote hand-held data gathering units, which normally communicate with remote base stations via a spread spectrum RF communications, are initialized via spread spectrum RF communications. A network chipping sequence is provided for encoding normal communications and an universal chipping sequence is provided for encoding communications relating to initialization of the remote units. The network chipping sequence is adjustable and must be initialized in each of the remote units to enable normal communications. The universal chipping code is fixed for all remote devices and base stations. Since the universal chipping code is fixed, spread spectrum RF communications of the initialization data, using the universal chipping code, can be effected even if the network chipping sequence is not initially set in the remote units.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1998Date of Patent: May 30, 2000Assignee: Symbol TechnologiesInventors: Wanda Sealander, John W. Kramer
