    Abstract: The present invention discloses the use of potassium 2-(?-hydroxypentyl) benzoate in the manufacture of medicaments for preventing, relieving or treating senile dementia diseases or symptom, and for relieving oxidative stress injury in brain tissue, increasing neural function of choline, protecting neuron and/or raising the content of brain nerve growth factor. The present invention also discloses a pharmaceutical composition comprising potassium 2-(?-hydroxypentyl) benzoate in prophylactically or therapeutically effective dose, optionally, a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or adjuvant.
