  • Patent number: 10547470
Abstract: A network communications component may be configured to self-lock at a signaled transmission rate. The network communications component may receive a first transmission rate signal indicating a first transmission rate. It may be determined that a transmission rate for the network communications component is unset on the network communications component. Determining that the transmission rate for the network communications component is unset may include accessing an entry for the transmission rate in a vital product data stored on the network communications component. The transmission rate for the network communications component may be set by storing an indication of the received first transmission rate in a memory location on the network communications component. Data transmission by the network communications component may be limited, in accordance with the stored indication of the first transmission rate, to not exceed the set transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 8326960
Abstract: Wake on local area network (LAN) functionality is provided in a multi-root environment. An I/O device, which is share by a plurality of physical hosts, receives the MAC address contained in the wake up packet, then prepares and sends an appropriate wake signal to the targeted host. In one embodiment, the shared I/O device sends an out-of-band wake up signal to each of the physical host computers, wherein the wake up signal is a serial bit stream encoded with the MAC address so that only the physical host having a MAC address matching the MAC address in the wake up signal will be turned on. In another embodiment, the shared I/O device sends a binary ON/OFF signal directly to the targeted physical host computer over a signal line associated with the MAC address.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for supplying power to processors in multiple processor systems are disclosed. Embodiments comprise a method of monitoring a parameter that is related to a first voltage potential coupled to the processor. When the parameter or condition monitored indicates that the first voltage is bad or faulty, the method generally involves isolating the voltage from the processor, disabling or resetting the processor, and coupling a second voltage potential to the processor. The method may also allow the computer system to continue operating with the processor disabled. Other embodiments comprise an error detection circuit for detecting an error related to a first voltage regulator, a disabling circuit to disable the first voltage regulator in response to the error, a processor isolating circuit, and a voltage switching circuit to supply voltage from a second voltage regulator to the processor.
