Patent number: 8534732Abstract: A combination cot loading and fastening system for loading and unloading an ambulance cot having a normal loading height of about 76 centimeters (about 30 inches) into an emergency rescue vehicle having a transport deck in excess of 78 centimeters (about 31 inches), the vehicle having an opening providing access to the transport deck, is disclosed. The system comprises a pair of tracks, a shuttle assembly to securely pull the ambulance cot along the pair of tracks, and a locking mechanism mounted on the shuttle assembly. The shuttle assembly is configured to position the locking mechanism a distance away from a second end of the pair of tracks and at angle below the transport deck of the emergency rescue vehicle, the angle ranging from about 10° to 25°, and the distance ranging about 22.8 centimeters (about 9 inches) to about 50 centimeters (about 20 inches).Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2013Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Ferno-Washington, Inc.Inventors: Elroy E. Bourgraf, Warren Dale Sutton, Robert C. Chinn, Irvin D. Pollock

Patent number: 7996939Abstract: A collapsible hydraulically operated ambulance cot having a support frame, a wheeled base, a support mechanism disposed therebetween, and a lift system for hydraulically moving the upper frame relative to the lower frame is disclosed. The lift system permits a single attendant to raise the cot from a lowered position to a raised position, and an infinite number of positions therebetween, and to raise the wheeled base relative to the support frame to situate the cot onto an elevated surface such as the transport deck of an ambulance. A manual override is also provided to conserve battery power and as a back-up in no-power situations. It is to be appreciated that the above described manual override mode may be used when raising or lowering the cot without power assist, dropping the undercarriage when unloading from a vehicle, and lifting the undercarriage when loading into a vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2005Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Ferno-Washington, Inc.Inventors: William H. Benedict, Robert C. Chinn, Warren Dale Sutton, Timothy P. Schroeder, Brian Slick

Publication number: 20090172883Abstract: A collapsible hydraulically operated ambulance cot (2) having a support frame, a wheeled base, a support mechanism (16) disposed therebetween, and a lift system (10) for hydraulically moving the upper (12) frame relative to the lower frame (14) is disclosed. The lift system (10) permits a single attendant to raise the cot (2) from a lowered position to a raised position, and an infinite number of positions therebetween, and to raise the wheeled base relative to the support frame to situate the cot onto an elevated surface such as the transport deck of an ambulance. A manual override is also provided to conserve battery (30) power and as a back-up in no-power situations. It is to be appreciated that the above described manual override mode may be used when raising or lowering the cot (2) without power assist, dropping the undercarriage (11) when unloading from a vehicle, and lifting the undercarriage (11) when loading into a vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2005Publication date: July 9, 2009Applicant: Ferno-Washington, Inc.Inventors: William H.
