  • Publication number: 20020019699
Abstract: An approach for providing retrieval of information via a geographic information system that uses a robust, standardized architecture. A user utilizing a client station is able to obtain, for example, telecommunication information by supplying input address information and optionally, user supplied selection criteria. An application server receives the input address information. A database server communicates with the application server; the database server is configured to validate and geocode the input address information. The database server outputs validated address information and positional information to the application server. The database server is coupled to numerous data sources. The database server retrieves the telecommunication information based upon the selection criteria and transmits the telecommunication information to the application server, which can generate a map graphic based upon the validated address and the positional information from the database server.

  • Publication number: 20020000999
Abstract: An approach for providing retrieval of requested information via a graphical user interface (GUI), which in one embodiment of the present invention, is web-enabled. A user utilizing a client station is able to obtain, for example, telecommunication information based on a user input address information. An address entry screen is provided for inputting address information and specifying desired criteria corresponding to telecommunication information. The address entry screen includes a display size field for inputting map scaling information, and a return-a-map field for requesting a map graphic. A map screen displays the map graphic and the telecommunication information based upon the input address information, the specified desired criteria, and the input map scaling information.

  • Patent number: 5918213
Abstract: An automated product purchasing system allows purchasers to order products via a remote communications medium without having to speak to a sales representative or other human operator. According to the invention, purchasers access the automated product purchasing system and browse among the selections offered. Menu style prompts guide the customer through the various products offered by the automated product purchasing system. Product descriptions are provided to assist the customer in making his or her selections. Where appropriate, product samples are provided to the customer via the communications medium so the customer can evaluate the product prior to purchasing. Examples of product samples include movie previews, sample cuts from music tracks, software demos, and the like. Ordering and purchasing are automated so that human operators are not required to intervene in the process.
