  • Patent number: 8853965
Abstract: A system and method for detecting light fixture failure and for enhancing energy efficient operation of multiple light fixtures. The system includes multiple light control modules and a gateway. The light control modules alert the gateway of a bulb or ballast failure based on light fixture power consumption. The light control module can indicate a sudden failure, a slow failure, a striating failure, a stuck relay failure and a start-up failure. The light control modules can include a photo-sensor and an occupancy sensor for measuring brightness and occupancy, respectively, in the vicinity of one or more light fixtures. The gateway can distribute operating instructions to the light control modules based on changes in the ambient temperature and based on the power consumption of nearby light fixtures.

  • Patent number: 8742625
Abstract: A multiphase inductive power supply wirelessly transmits power in multiple phases. A primary circuit energizes multiple tank circuits in an out of phase relationship. A secondary circuit receives the power and recombines the power. • Patent number: 8274928
Abstract: A wireless mesh network where a portion of the nodes have reduced receive sensitivity. The negative effects of the density of the wireless mesh network, such as interference, are reduced when fewer nodes receive messages to rebroadcast. In an alternative embodiment, some of the nodes of the mesh network are configured to not rebroadcast even if they receive a message. A method for configuring a dense mesh network is also provided. As many nodes as possible are discovered and registered in the network. Node characteristics of those nodes are adjusted to reduce or eliminate the negative effects of the dense mesh network so that additional nodes may be discovered and registered.

  • Publication number: 20110253139
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for mounting an inhaler module to an inhaler, indicating compliance with a treatment regiment, shaking an inhaler and indicating mixing status, and reminding a user to prime the inhaler. The mounting element can have an elastic body adapted to interchangeably join both an inhaler and an inhaler module. Compliance can be indicated at a glance for a caregiver by providing an indication of the level of asthma medication treatment compliance. An accelerometer can be used to track mixing status of the medication canister and timestamped accelerometer data can be used to provide appropriate reminders to prime the inhaler.

  • Patent number: 7973635
Abstract: A multilayer printed circuit board (“PCB”) coil that simulates a coil formed from litz wire. The PCB includes a plurality of alternating conductor and insulating layers interconnected to cooperatively form the coil. Each conductor layer includes a trace that follows the desired coil shape and is divided into a plurality of discrete conductor segments. The segments are electrically connected across layers to provide a plurality of current flow paths (or filaments) that undulate between the layers in a regular, repeating pattern. The coil may be configured so that each filament spends a substantially equal amount of time in proximity to the paired coil and therefore contributes substantially equally to the self or mutual inductance of the coil. Each conductor layer may include a plurality of associated traces and intralayer connector that interconnected so that each filament undulates not only upwardly/downwardly, but also inwardly/outwardly in a regular, repeating pattern.

  • Publication number: 20090256534
Abstract: A power supply system including a controller capable of regulating a pulsed output voltage. The power supply system includes a load, a switching circuit connected to the load, and a controller electrically connected to the switching circuit. The controller is adapted to transmit a switching signal to the switching circuit for generating an adjustable duty cycle pulsed voltage to provide power to the controller and the load. The controller is further adapted to adjust the pulsed output voltage against a reference voltage by varying the duty cycle of the switching signal. The power supply system may include a start-up circuit electrically connected to the controller and adapted to provide a start-up voltage to the controller until the controller is powered by an operating voltage through the switching circuit.

  • Patent number: 7269416
Abstract: A vehicle-based control system and method for use with a barrier operating system that includes a motor, a receiver in communication with the motor, and a remote transmitter for transmitting an activation signal to the receiver. The activation signal includes a radio frequency carrier signal modulated with a codeword for use in activating the motor to open and close the barrier. A vehicle-mounted transceiver receives multiple radio frequency carrier signals, and transmits an activation signal for receipt by the barrier operating system receiver. A vehicle-mounted controller stores the received radio frequency carrier signals, and receives user input identifying an activation scheme having a variable codeword format.
