  • Patent number: 4917150
Abstract: A solenoid actuated valve for regulating the fluid pressure at a control port by cyclically connecting the control port alternately to a fluid pressure supply source and to a sump includes a sleeve-like valve member slidably mounted on a fixed valve member for movement between two positions in response to energization or deenergization of the solenoid coil. The valve sleeve is the armature of the solenoid and operates within an internal chamber in the valve housing with pressure within the chamber balanced against its opposite ends. Energization and deenergization of the solenoid coil may be controlled by a processor which supplies a pulse width modulated electric control signal variable in response to processor inputs to establish a control port pressure which is accurately linearly related to the time duration of the pulse width modulated signal.

  • Patent number: 4660597
Abstract: A fuel pressure regulator is shown as having two distinct and variable chambers sharing, as a common wall therebetween, a pressure responsive diaphragm which controls the position of a valve actuator depending upon the pressure differential existing across the diaphragm with such pressure differential being reflective of the pressure differential existing as from the magnitude of the pressure of the fuel in a first of the two chambers to the magnitude of the pressure within the second of the two chambers which is at ambient atmospheric pressure; a flapper type valve openable by the valve actuator serves to control the flow of fuel into the first of the two chambers from where the pressure regulated fuel flows as to associated fuel metering apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4637366
Abstract: A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with an induction passage therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage, a fuel-air mixture discharge member is situated generally in the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, an air passage communicates between a source of air and the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the air passage is shown as also including a flow restrictor therein which provides for sonic flow therethrough, and a fuel metering valving assembly having a valve member is effective for metering liquid fuel as at a superatmospheric pressure and delivering such metered liquid fuel as into the air passage upstream of the flow restrictor thereby causing the thusly metered liquid fuel and air to pass through the sonic flow restrictor before being discharged into the induction passage by the fuel-air mixture discharge member, and a portion of the exhaust gases from an associated engine is directed as to mix with the air flowing throu

  • Patent number: 4539960
Abstract: A fuel pressure regulator is shown as having two distinct and variable chambers sharing, as a common wall therebetween, a pressure responsive diaphragm which controls the position of a throttle valve actuator depending on the pressure differential existing across the diaphragm with such pressure differential being reflective of the pressure differential existing as from the magnitude of the pressure of the unmetered fuel to the magnitude of the pressure of the metered fuel; the throttle valve actuator serves to further open a fuel throttling valve or permit such fuel throttling valve to further close as to maintain the magnitude of the pressure of the unmetered fuel at a selected regulated magnitude.

  • Patent number: 4335693
Abstract: A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with induction passage means therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage means, fuel under superatmospheric pressure is metered and such metered fuel is supplied to a fuel discharge nozzle situated within the induction passage means downstream of the throttle valve; a first air flow is supplied to the metered fuel upstream of the fuel discharge nozzle as to cause the metered fuel to at least start to undergo atomization even before being discharged at the discharge nozzle; a second air flow is also supplied to the fuel discharge nozzle as to at idle engine speed flow sonically therethrough, and additional throttling valving means are provided for controlling the air flow to the fuel discharge nozzle.
