Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an exits sign. The methods comprise: using the exit sign to denote a physical location of a closest exit of a building; obtaining, by the exit sign, sensor data generated by at least one sensor internal to or external from the exit sign, the sensor data specifying a condition or characteristic of equipment, an individual or a surrounding environment; and using the sensor data to facilitate at least one of (i) remote management of an emergency system for a building, (ii) locating of an individual or asset in the building, and (iii) management of an incident event by an organization.
