Abstract: Methods for estimating a minimum inhibitory concentration of an antibiotic for a bacterial species. Methods according to certain embodiments include obtaining cytometric data (e.g., flow cytometer data) for a plurality of test samples and a control sample for the antibiotic and bacterial species, computing distance values that reflect a measure of variation between one or more pairs of samples, and assigning a minimum inhibitory concentration based on the computed distance values. Systems for practicing the subject methods are also provided. Non-transitory computer readable storage media are also described.

Abstract: Methods of evaluating a cellular sample for HER-2/neu expression are provided. Aspects of the methods include flow cytometrically obtaining fluorescence emission data from a cellular sample fluorescently labelled HER-2/neu specific binding member and employing the sample fluorescence emission data with standard fluorescence emission data to obtain a value of fluorescently labelled HER-2/neu specific binding members bound per cell.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for distinguishing whether an animal is experiencing a bacterial infection or a viral infection. One monitors breath taken from the animal over time to measure the relative amount of a first breath stable isotope to a second breath stable isotope therein over time. A quick change in the isotope ratios within several hours from the likely infection is indicative of a bacterial infection. A delayed change in the isotope ratios, followed by periodic repeated alterations in the ratios, is indicative of viral infection. The methods are particularly efficient when using cavity ringdown spectroscopy for the monitoring. They may be used for monitoring a patient already admitted to a hospital, or for monitoring a patient initially complaining of adverse symptoms, or for triage, or for collectively monitoring a population of animals.
