  • Patent number: 5172981
Abstract: A spherical hydrostatic bearing having a ball mounted in a split socket for substantially friction free movement relative thereto and a linear hydrostatic bearing extending through the ball and having a longitudinal axis coinciding with the longitudinal axis of the ball for permitting substantially friction free sliding movement of a rod. Also, apparatus is provided for at least limiting rotational movement of the ball around the longitudinal axis of the split socket.

  • Patent number: 5134874
Abstract: Apparatus for forming can blanks into elongated can bodies comprising a support structure having first and second gears rotatably mounted on the support structure and drive means for rotating the first and second gears so that the second gear rotates in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the first gear. A redraw assembly and can forming and ironing dies located adjacent to the support structure. A ram mounted on the support structure for reciprocating linear movement with portions thereof passing through the redraw assembly and the can forming and ironing dies. Connecting the ram to the first and second gears so that rotation of the first and second gears reciprocates the ram. In one embodiment, the ram does not rotate during the reciprocation thereof but in another embodiment the ram rotates during the reciprocation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5090229
Abstract: The invention is directed to the punch on the reciprocating ram of a can body making machine wherein the punch is mounted on one end portion of the reciprocating ram so that the punch is capable of rotational movement relative to the reciprocating ram.

  • Patent number: 5056350
Abstract: Apparatus and method for stripping a can body having an open end and a closed end from the punch on a reciprocating ram of a can body making apparatus wherein a cavity exists between the closed end and the punch and wherein the ram has a forward stroke and a return stroke by moving the closed end into contact with doming apparatus during the forward stroke to move a valve from a closed to an opened position to feed air under pressure into the cavity to hold the closed end against the doming apparatus during the return stroke until the can body is separated from the punch and ejecting the stripped can body from the doming apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5046374
Abstract: Apparatus comprising a support structure having first and second members rotatably mounted on the support structure and drive apparatus for rotating the first and second members so that the second member rotates in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the first member. A movable member for performing work is mounted on the support structure for reciprocating linear movement and is connected to the first and second members so that rotation of the first and second members reciprocates the movable member. In one embodiment, the movable member does not rotate during the reciprocation thereof but in another embodiment the movable member rotates during the reciprocation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4989434
Abstract: This invention provides method and apparatus for reshaping the bottom wall of an aluminum can body wherein a mold member having a generally cylindrical outer surface having a longitudinal axis and a contoured bottom surface is mounted for rotation in a support structure and an aluminum can body having a generally cylindrical sidewall having a longitudinal axis and an integral bottom wall is secured on the mold member so that an annular portion of the bottom wall contacts at least an annular portion of the contoured bottom surface and the longitudinal axes thereof coincide. As the mold member and the can body are rotated, resilient forces are applied to the bottom wall using a tool member having a spherical surface which is moved in a diametrical linear direction across the bottom wall to reshape the bottom wall into conformation with the contoured bottom surface.

  • Patent number: 4810209
Abstract: An electrical connector capable of withstanding a predetermined pressure differential without leakage and a predetermined axial load without dislocation of insert assemblies from their normal position in the connector shell is disclosed. The connector includes one insert assembly which may be a pin or socket insert assembly and an other insert assembly which is a socket insert assembly. The one and the other insert assemblies include contacts arranged in "piggy-back" relation. The one insert assembly is ring staked to the connector shell and the socket insert assembly is bonded to a grommet and sealed in the shell.

  • Patent number: 4682832
Abstract: A tubular sleeve of a deformable plastic is longitudinally slotted to define a plurality of laterally separated axially weakened longitudinal columns (62) the respective forward leading edges (64) of which being inserted into an annular passageway (32) formed between an insert (20) disposed in a shell (10) so that the columns curl about and the column medial portions (66) collapse in an accordian-like fashion whereby to radially interferencingly wedge and lock the columns in the passage and thereby to retain the insert in the shell. The curling could be 180.degree. causing the leading edges to retreat coaxially rearward or be 270.degree. causing the leading edges to loop about and be driven radially outward, the leading edges in either possibly engaging its rearward medial portion.
