Abstract: A process for transferring a field document between an online environment of a complex project workflow system and an offline environment is provided. The workflow process is controlled by a processing system and is designed to facilitate the preparation for and performance of the complex project. The process creates a copy of the field document to be transferred from the workflow process on the processing system to the offline environment. The copy of the field document is then transmitted to a particular user on a party's system via a communication network. The process further provides controlled access to the field document on the processing system during a period that the copy of the field document is in the offline environment beyond the control of the processing system.

A standard data array module correlating to a standard data input interface of the field document is provided. The standard data input interface receives input of standard actual data to populate the standard data array module. An optional data array module correlating to a respective optional data input interface of the field document is also provided. The respective optional data input interface receives input of optional data to populate the optional data array module. The optional data array module and the correlative optional data input interface are added to the workflow process as a conjunct to the standard data array and correlative standard data input interface.

The process then retrieves the similar actual data from the archived data array and populates the first data array with the similar actual data. The process then stores the similar actual data in the first data array as preliminary actual data.

Modifications to the first version of the data input interface are then stored to create a second version of the data input interface. The second version of the data input interface is then activated allowing a second set of data to be entered via the second version of the data input interface.
