Abstract: Disclosed are novel diaminothiazoles that are selective inhibitors of Cdk4. These compounds and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters are anti-proliferative agents useful in the treatment or control of solid tumors, in particular breast, colon, lung and prostate tumors. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds as well as intermediates useful in the preparation of the compounds.

Abstract: A melt method of preparing polycarbonate having a predetermined number average molecular weight and percent endcapping is described. A computerized process model is used to determine the reaction parameters to be employed in order to furnish the product polycarbonate possessing the desired Mn and %EC. Reaction parameters of importance include a suitable starting molar ratio of diaryl carbonate to dihydroxy aromatic compound, the most appropriate reaction time, reaction temperature and pressure ranges. The target polycarbonate is then prepared using reaction parameters indicated by the process model in a reactor which forms an element of the process model. Characteristics of the reactor which may be included in the process model include agitation rate and reflux ratio during the distillative removal of hydroxy aromatic compound formed as a by-product during the polymerization.

Abstract: The fire extinguisher includes a container filled with a fire extinguishing liquid and having a normally closed main outlet and support structure extending through an opening of the container wall. A compressed gas cartridge located in the container is supported by the support structure. The support structure has an opening formed therethrough which leads to the end of the compressed gas cartridge. A plunger, an explosive charge, and a heat sensitive fuse, the latter of which has a portion is exposed to the exterior of the container, are located in the opening of the support structure. In the presence of high temperature, the fuse causes the explosive charge to explode and force the plunger to rupture the cartridge which release the gas into the liquid in the container by way of a normally closed gas outlet formed through the wall of the support structure. This causes the liquid to be forced out of the container by way of the normally closed main outlet.

Abstract: Films in which the various color gradients are particularly balanced in relationship to each other are prepared from sensitized emulsions prepared separately and then either coated as separate layers or mixed just prior to coating. These films are particularly useful as color separation negatives where machine processing is used and where identical processing conditions for each color record are desirable.

Abstract: Process for the methylation of toluene under conditions such that the formation of meta-xylene is suppressed and the formation of ortho and para-xylene is enhanced carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite, said zeolite having a silica to alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index, as hereinafter defined, of from 1 to 12, said catalyst having been modified by the addition thereto of a Group VA element in an amount of at least 0.5 percent by weight.
