  • Patent number: 7642096
Abstract: A calorimeter is provided for measuring a quantity of heat. The calorimeter has a liquid constrained so as to allow expansion of the liquid solely in one dimension along a single axis such that liquid expansion may be measured on the basis of light impinging along the single axis of liquid expansion by means of a non-contact displacement transducer. Interferometric optical means for remote measurement of multiple microcalorimeters permits parallel monitoring of multiple chemical reactions and the performance of parallel biochemical assays.

  • Patent number: 7391215
Abstract: A magnetic assembly for a nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus includes a number of primary permanent magnets 1 disposed in an array about a longitudinal axis, the arrangement and/or characteristics of the plurality of magnets being such so as to create a zone of homogeneous magnetic field at some location along the axis forward of the array (and into the material when provided). A secondary permanent magnet 7 may be located along the longitudinal axis within the array of primary magnets and may be moveable. The primary magnets 1 have a north pole and a south pole with an axis therebetween, and may be arranged such that the axis between the poles is at an angle to the longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20040143213
Abstract: The systems and methods described herein include, inter alia, drug delivery devices that can provide doses of medicaments over a defined region of skin. Such systems and methods described herein may employ a hollow perforator that can receive a volume of drug and an actuator that can drive the perforator through a stroke cycle that accelerates the perforator and the volume of drug distally and then decelerates the perforator so that the volume of fluid is ejected out of the perforator.

  • Patent number: 4523385
Abstract: A latch of the over center type for use inter alia in locking together surveyors rods in order to give reproducible measurements. The latch locks together a first axially slidable member (2) and a second axially slidable member (8) in overlapping disposition; it comprises a pair of latch supporting pivots (22) extruding from the first member, on a first common axis a pair of latch fulcrum pivots (26) extruding from the second member on an axis parallel to the first axis, a latch arrester (30) extruding from the first member, a latch body (16) having a face and sides (18) which extend to or past the latch fulcrum pivots (26) each latch side having an S-shaped recess (24) to engage the associated fulcrum pivot and an elongated slot (20) to engage the elongated latch support pivot. At least one of the sides has an edge protrusion (34) which must be snapped past the latch arrester (30) to complete the latch action.
