Publication number: 20220026275Abstract: A video processing method improves the repeatability of point-of-care (POC) mean pixel intensity (MPI) analysis, for example by rejecting low-quality input data using image features. Using these features, the method selects high-quality frames and achieves an improvement in correlation and standard error for the MPI-absorbance relationship. In another example, a mobile device (e.g., smartphone) based image processing method produces an MPI output with smaller variances, lower limits of detection (LODs), and a higher dynamic range than existing methods. This method has improved performance in the presence of additive and multiplicative ambient light noise.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2019Publication date: January 27, 2022Inventors: Waseem ASGHAR, Benjamin COLEMAN, Chad COARSEY

Publication number: 20210178394Abstract: Systems for sorting sperm include a housing and a microfluidic system supported by the housing. The systems also include two or more inlets providing access to the microfluidic system to deliver sperm or semen and fluid to the microfluidic system, as well as an outlet for harvesting sorted sperm. The systems include a flow channel that provides a flow path for sperm from an inlet to an outlet while sperm travels against a fluid flow towards an outlet for harvesting. In the systems, fluid delivered to the microfluidic system via an inlet flows from the inlet towards one or more outlets, and the flow channel extending along the length of the microfluidic system provides a flow path for motile sperm to travel against the fluid flow towards a collection outlet for harvesting.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2019Publication date: June 17, 2021Inventor: Waseem Asghar
