Publication number: 20220040611Abstract: Various example embodiments relate to an automatic drain system for use with a fluid water separator. The automatic drain system includes a liquid-in-fuel sensor configured to detect a liquid level in a water sump. A pump includes an inlet in fluid communication with the water sump and an outlet in fluid communication with the inlet. The pump has an active state and an inactive state. The active state causes the pump to draw liquid in from the inlet and direct liquid toward the outlet. A battery is configured to power the pump. A circuit board is operably connected to the pump and battery. The circuit board includes at least one circuit having a first state and a second state. The first state prevents power flow from the battery to the pump. Publication number: 20210053000Abstract: A replacement filter element having a removable pin attached to the filter element is described. The removable pin is attached to the filter element via a first interference fit. When the replacement filter element is installed into a filtration system having a drain valve with an internal draft, the removable pin seals onto the drain valve and forms a second interference fit between the drain valve and the pin. The pin seals an opening in the drain valve. The second interference fit is stronger than the first interference. Accordingly, when the replacement filter element is removed from the filter housing (e.g., during a service event of the replacement filter element), the pin detaches from the replacement filter element and remains positioned within the drain valve thereby preventing fluid from leaking from the housing when the filter element is removed. The pin permanently plugs the drain valve once installed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2020Publication date: February 25, 2021Applicant: Cummins Filtration IP, Inc.Inventors: Mark D. Straussberger, Pravin S. Kadam, Wassem Abdalla

Patent number: 10894227Abstract: A filtration apparatus comprises a housing defining an internal volume sized to receive a filter element, an inlet for receiving a fluid and an outlet for expelling the fluid. A retention mechanism is disposed in the housing having a ball plug operatively connected thereto and selectively displaceable in an axial direction relative to the housing. An engagement member is disposed within the housing and comprises a port having an opening and a ramp. A portion of the port is disposed within the outlet. The ball plug is movable between a first position, in which the ball plug rests on the ramp, does not seal the opening of the port and fluid can be expelled from the housing port, and a second position in which the ball plug is aligned with the port, the ball plug seals the opening of the port and the fluid cannot be expelled from the outlet.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2015Date of Patent: January 19, 2021Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP, Inc.Inventor: Wassem Abdalla

Publication number: 20200289963Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a filtration system. The filtration system includes a housing having a drain. A filter element is positioned within the housing. The filter element comprises a first endplate and a second endplate. Filter media is positioned between the first endplate and second endplate. A dual lip seal member is coupled to the second endplate. The dual lip seal member includes a first protrusion that extends radially outward around an outer surface of the dual lip seal member. A second protrusion extends radially outward around the outer surface of the dual lip seal member. The dual lip seal member is configured to prevent fluid to be filtered from exiting the housing through the drain when the filter element is in an installed position. Publication number: 20190240602Abstract: A fuel filter system that does not require the periodic draining of a water sump. The system includes a fuel tank for storing fuel and a fuel filter fluidly coupled to the fuel tank for separating water from the fuel. A fuel pump has a suction side and a high pressure side. The high pressure side of the fuel pump is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter for pumping fuel to the fuel filter. A water emulsifier, such as an orifice, is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter to receive water and fuel from the fuel filter and form a water-fuel emulsion. The water-fuel emulsion is supplied to any point in the system on the suction side of the fuel pump, such that the water-fuel emulsion passes through the fuel pump and fuel filter.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2016Publication date: August 8, 2019Applicant: Cummins Filtration IP, INC.Inventors: Gérard Malgorn, Pierrick Bonzi, Travis E. Patent number: 10201771Abstract: A filtration system is described. The filtration system includes a filter housing having a central tube and a replaceable filter element. The central tube includes a gasket that plugs a passage from the dirty side of the filter element to the clean side of the filter element when the filter element is installed in an operational position. The gasket includes an integrated drain extending through the gasket. The gasket is integrated into the central tube and stays in place when the filter element is removed (e.g., during replacement of the filter element). The removal of the filter element opens the drain to allow for the draining of the fluid from the housing to the tank. The gasket is reusable and does not need to be replaced with each filter element replacement.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2015Date of Patent: February 12, 2019Assignee: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Gérard Malgorn, Stéphane Simon, Stéphane Le Guyader, Wassem Abdalla
