  • Patent number: 5633847
Abstract: Simultaneous recording on and playback from both sides of a double sided disk is achieved Sector addresses on both sides of the disk are read by respective scanners. One of address is renumbered according to a preset conversion rule which minimizes a time difference between instructions (for recording and playback on both disk sides) to be output to respective modems. Recording and playback operation are controlled according to the renumbered sector address.

  • Patent number: 5563855
Abstract: An optical recording and reproducing apparatus records the audio and video signals to an optical disk by dividing the audio and video signals for one frame into top and bottom audio and video signal components. The top and bottom audio signal component are recorded to a predetermined track on disk sides A and B referenced to the rotation position detection information preformatted thereon, respectively. A mode set panel produces a mode signal for switching the operating mode. A mode determiner produces the head operation mode signal for determining the operating mode of the optical heads based on the signal. Top and bottom heads record and reproduce audio and video signals to or from the two sides A and B, respectively. Top and bottom vertical synchronization mark generators produce the vertical synchronization marks from the sector of the optical disk preformatted for recording and reproducing audio and video signals. Head actuators drive the pickup.

  • Patent number: 5249172
Abstract: A write laser power setting device for setting a write laser power for writing data on a recording medium, includes first and second oscillators and for producing carrier signals having high frequencies f1 and f2. The carrier signals are added with each other to produce a sum signal which is applied to a laser driver for producing a laser drive signal. The power of the laser drive signal is changed to various levels. Using the laser drive signal, the write/read head writes test signals at preselected areas on the recording medium such that different writing power levels are applied to different preselected areas, respectively. After writing the test signals, the write/read head reads the recorded test signals. From the read signal, an unwanted signal having a frequency f1-f2 is filtered, and the level of the unwanted signal is detected and stored. A minimum level of the stored levels is selected, and a preselected area at which the minimum level reading is obtained is detected.
