    Abstract: A connector includes a holding member. The holding member has two guide portions which are arranged away from each other in a pitch direction. Each of the guide portions has a side portion, an upper portion and a lower portion which are formed as described below. The side portion intersects with the pitch direction and is provided with a first projection portion and a side surface facing inward in the pitch direction. Each of the upper portion and the lower portion intersects with an up-down direction, and at least one of the upper portion and the lower portion is provided with a second projection portion. The first projection portion is away from both the upper portion and the lower portion and projects inward in the pitch direction from the side surface. The second projection portion is away from the side surface and projects inward in the up-down direction.

Front edges at the fitting start of the plural connector units 2a to 4b are tapered, and the connector units move along tapered portions in the connection fitting time. The plural connector units may be different in front-edge fitting start position along a connecting direction.

The recess groove has a clearance which enables positional adjustment of the connector unit in a direction orthogonal to an axial direction of connection of the connector unit. A thermosetting adhesive 19 is applied to the clearance, whereby the plurality of connector units are bonded and fixed to the connector housing with the predetermined relative positions and intervals.

The optical fiber has a glass fiber and a protective coating, and is aligned with the insertion hole with the protective coating interposed therebetween. The optical fiber is retained in the insertion hole with the glass fiber not in contact with the insertion hole.
