  • Patent number: 6033163
Abstract: A cylindrical tool bit holder has a rotatably operable cylindrical cover for access to clip mounted tool chuck and tool bits disposed on the inside of the cover, and an integral clip affixed to the holder body for tool belt mounting of the holder, whereby the user with the holder belt mounted, rotatably removes the cover and inspects the array of tool bits and then in turn with the other hand removes the chuck for assembly to the hand tool or then removes a tool bit for assembly to the chuck. After removal of the chuck and tool bit, the cover is rotatably replaced on the cylindrical body of the holder and rotated no more than 120.degree. for locking engagement of the cover on the body. The cover is formed with equally spaced flexible tabs each having respective buttons for slidably engaging into holes on the body, for locking and unlocking the cover to the body. The cover is removed and replaced with the user using only one hand.

  • Patent number: 6003304
Abstract: A catalytic converter of an engine, such as might be found in an automotive engine system, is capable of being quickly and electrically heated in order to reduce pollution emissions during critical cold start conditions. During cold start conditions, i.e. upon starting the engine, for a predetermined period of time the catalytic converter directly receives electrical power via a quick heating path connecting a catalyst power switch to the catalytic converter. Following the predetermined period of time after which the catalytic converter has been electrically heated, the catalyst power switch is connected to a junction block, such as a starter motor assembly, of the automotive engine system via a normal path.

  • Patent number: 5978207
Abstract: Ferroelectric PbZr.sub.x T.sub.1-x O.sub.3 (PZT) thin films are deposited on Pt coated Si substrates by using RF magnetron sputtering. A method for obtaining desirable stoichiometric PZT, the desired ferroelectric perovskite phase, and better dielectric properties using a PZT target with Pb/(Zr+Ti) ratio of 1.2 and depositing at 350.degree. C., followed by thermal treatment at 620.degree. C. for 30 min is disclosed. The structural and electrical properties of the PZT layer were further improved by a method of fabricating a novel multi-layer structure which combined the PZT thin film with nanolayers of BaTiO.sub.3. The method and device of the present invention provided reduced leakage current density while maintaining high relative effective dielectric constants.

  • Patent number: 5968369
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing contaminants from waste water directs the waste water through a first magnetic field. An ionic polymer is introduced into the waste water after the waste water passes through the first magnetic field, whereby at least some contaminants flocculate. Flocculated contaminants are separated from the waste water so as to form a waste water effluent. An oxidizing agent is introduced into the waste water effluent and the waste water and the oxidizing agent are directed through a second magnetic. The waste water is directed through a weir into a trough open to the atmosphere. Air is injected into the trough so that at least one gas within the waste water combines with the air injected into the waste water. The combined air and gas floats to the surface of the waste water and is expelled into the atmosphere. Foam is removed from the waste water in the trough.

  • Patent number: 5960681
Abstract: A socket driver, and method of forming the same, is described in which longitudinal protuberances are provided on successive surfaces of the hexagonal cavity for receiving a bit driver. The protuberances create an interference fit with the driven end of the bit driver, the protuberances being so dimensioned that forceful insertion of the bit driver into the hexagonal cavity at least partially deflects the walls portions on which protuberances are formed to thereby slightly deflect the same. The resulting restoring forces create a spring action which semi-permanently secures the bit driver received within the socket driver.

  • Patent number: 5940491
Abstract: Apparatus and method for controlling establishment of telecommunications call connections in a telecommunications network. The network comprises a plurality of switches each with its own switching processor means, and a plurality of switching processing platforms each comprising at least one call processor. The switches and switching processing platforms are interconnected by a data network. SS7 signaling messages are received in one of the platforms and a call is assigned to a call processor. The call processor communicates with one or more switching processor means for controlling establishment of the call. Call features are processed under the control of the call processor. Advantageously, any call processor can be used for serving any call in the network and can control all legs of a multi-leg connection. Advantageously, in a large network, the number of platforms may be significantly less than the number of switches which reduces the cost and complexity of administration of the network.

  • Patent number: 5899174
Abstract: The engine generator set has an internal combustion engine and an alternator in a main compartment. Two separate cooling air streams independently cool the internal combustion engine and alternator. The independent air streams are then intermixed in the main compartment and used to cool the engine exhaust system and gases. Heat sensitive components are segregated from the heat generating components. Cooling air is drawn over the heat sensitive components maintaining them at nearly ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 5894765
Abstract: A ratcheting tool, such as a screwdriver having multiple reversible bits in which a ratchet assembly is located in the screwdriver handle closer to the rear end of the handle, being the end opposite the screwdriver shank. Extending from the ratchet in a direction toward the shank, but at least partially within the handle, is a ratchet drive tube having an interior cross-section which is hexagonal. The screwdriver shank is a tube with both ends, having hexagonal interior cross-sections into which interchangeable double-ended drive bits with mating hexagonal shoulders may be partially inserted, with a portion of each hexagonal shoulder remaining exposed. The exposed portion of the hexagonal shoulder opposite the bit selected for use is inserted into the mating hexagonal ratchet drive tube. Driving rotation of the handle is transmitted to the selected bit in use through the ratchet and ratchet drive tube to the shoulder of the unselected bit, to the screwdriver shank and to the shoulder of the selected bit.
