Wayne Arthur Bowman has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 5972591
Abstract: The invention is generally accomplished by providing a photographic element and a process of its formation wherein a gelatin silver halide emulsion is provided with a thickener comprising a copolymer of the structure whereinA comprises about 10 to about 20 parts by weight of said copolymer, andB comprises about 80 to about 90 parts by weight of said copolymer. It is particularly preferred that the copolymer be provided in a hardener layer to minimize the amount of gelatin needed and thus reduce the reaction of hardener with gelatin. The invention finds a preferred use in curtain coating wherein there is a greater need for high viscosity materials, particularly at the bottom of a group of layers in order to minimize distortions of the layers as they are applied in the curtain coating process.

  • Patent number: 5714340
Abstract: A dry immunoassay analytical element, for assaying a ligand is disclosed. The element comprises, in the following order, (a) a layer containing a labeled ligand, (b) a bead spreading layer, c) a cross-linked hydrophilic polymer layer and d) a support; wherein(i) a fixed concentration of an immobilized receptor for the labeled ligand is located in a zone at the interface of layers (b) and (c); and(ii) the receptors are immobilized by being covalently bonded to polymeric beads that are smaller than the beads in layer (c).

  • Patent number: 5709971
Abstract: Dye imbibition printing blanks are disclosed comprising a support bearing on one side thereof a dye-receiving layer comprising a cationic mordant, and further comprising an antistatic layer substantially free of cationic polymers. The antistatic layer is preferably provided on the opposite side of the support relative to the dye-receiving layer. Such antistatic layer provides improved antistatic properties which enable high manufacturing and processing speeds without adversely affecting printed image qualities.

  • Patent number: 5709983
Abstract: Photographic elements are formed by (a) coating a first layer on a transparent support from a coating composition comprising an organic solvent, an alkaline aqueous insoluble, organic solvent soluble film forming binder, and a solid particle non-aqueous dispersion of a filter dye which is substantially insoluble in the organic solvent and readily soluble or decolorizable in alkaline aqueous photographic processing solutions at pH of 8 or above, and (b) coating a second layer on the opposite side of the support relative to the filter dye containing layer from an aqueous coating composition comprising a silver halide emulsion.

  • Patent number: 5641967
Abstract: A radiographic phosphor panel having oxosulfur functionalized polymer reducing agents. The phosphor panel has a support and a luminescent layer overlaying the support. The luminescent layer includes phosphor crystals, and binder. The oxosulfur functionalized polymer reducing agent is present in a concentration sufficient to substantially increase the photostimulated luminescence of the panel.
