  • Publication number: 20070196623
Abstract: A sheet assembly including a sheet of paper or polymer film having a first surface and a second opposed surface, and having a coating material formed on at least the second surface of the sheet. A plurality of parallel substantial-cut lines extend substantially the length and width of a sheet to define two columns of card blanks on the sheet. The substantial-cut lines do not extend substantially into the coating material formed on the second surface of the card assembly. The sheet is passed through a laser or ink jet printer, printing the desired identifying or other indicia on the blanks. The blanks are then separated along the substantial-cut line(s). The cards separate cleanly along the substantial-cut lines, superior to microperforated card separation lines. Even with the substantial-cut line(s), the sheets maintain sufficient integrity to reliably pass through the printer without breaking apart.

  • Publication number: 20050254227
Abstract: The invention provides a chemiluminescent light emitting article having a transparent facestock layer, a chemiluminescent layer comprising at least one chemiluminescent compound and a latent initiator, and an activator layer comprising at least one activating compound operable to react with the latent initiator whereby the initiator causes the chemiluminescent compound to emit light.

  • Publication number: 20050230960
Abstract: A tamper-resistant secure label, article and associated method. A label for overlying information comprises an adhesive layer for adhering the label to a substrate. The adhesive layer includes a structural adhesive that ensures that an initial removal precludes re-adhering using the adhesive layer. The label may further include an obscuring layer to selectively block visual access to the information and maintain the confidentiality of the information until the obscuring layer is removed.

  • Publication number: 20050215655
Abstract: A structural adhesive is formed by applying an adhesive composition to a substrate, partially curing the adhesive to a pressure sensitive adhesive, and subsequently curing the adhesive by exposing the adhesive to an anaerobic accelerator in the absence of oxygen. The pressure sensitive adhesive provides a tacky surface allowing a temporary bond at room temperature. Upon curing of the adhesive construction, the bond properties change to that of a structural adhesive, providing a strong permanent bond.

  • Publication number: 20050214497
Abstract: Films useful for activating anaerobic adhesives and coatings are described, and more particularly, labels are described which comprise (a) a polymer facestock having an upper surface and a lower surface, and (b) an activating layer having an upper surface and a lower surface wherein the upper surface of the activating layer underlies the facestock, and the activating layer comprises at least 1 activating agent for anaerobic curing. There is also described a method of labeling substrates utilizing the labels with anaerobic adhesives.

  • Publication number: 20050175807
Abstract: A card sheet including a top material layer having pre-cut weakened lines extending partially but not completely through the top material layer, the top material layer having a front surface and a back surface; and an electron beam cured polymer layer applied as an electron beam curable pre-polymer composition to the back side of the top material layer, wherein at least a portion of the pre-polymer composition diffuses into the top material layer to a depth which, upon electron beam curing to form the electron beam cured polymer, renders the top material layer breakable along the weakened lines. A method of making the card sheet is provided, in which the electron beam curable pre-polymer composition is applied to the top material layer and diffuses into the layer, and the pre-polymer is subsequently cured. The card sheet is cleanly breakable into sub-sheets.

  • Publication number: 20050161180
Abstract: A card sheet including a top material layer having pre-cut weakened lines extending partially but not completely through the top material layer, the top material layer having a front side and a back side; and a starch composition layer applied to the back side of the top material layer, wherein at least a portion of the starch composition diffuses into the top material layer to a depth and renders the top material layer breakable along the weakened lines. A method of making the card sheet, including providing the top material layer, cutting partially through the top material layer; and applying a starch composition to form the starch composition layer on the back side of the top material layer; and at least partially removing any diluent present in the starch composition. The top material layer may be printable, and the card sheet may include a second top material layer.

  • Publication number: 20050084640
Abstract: This invention relates to a composite construction for use as a label or a tape to be adhered to a second substrate comprising a rubber-based material (e.g., vehicular tire), said composite construction comprising: a first substrate (e.g., paper, polymer film or combination thereof), said first substrate having a face side and an underside opposite said face side; an adhesive layer; and a barrier layer adhered to the underside of said first substrate and positioned between said first substrate and said adhesive layer, said barrier layer comprising a radiation cured acrylated epoxy derived from at least one acrylated epoxy oligomer and at least one reactive diluent selected from N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and N-vinylcaprolactam, said barrier layer being substantially impervious to migratory components in said adhesive layer and said second substrate. In one embodiment, a release liner is adhered to the adhesive layer. In one embodiment, the composite construction is adhered to the second substrate.
