  • Publication number: 20080143231
Abstract: A new contact member is provided to establish intimate contact between a lead wire and the contact member of a lamp base. A flap is formed in a planar wall and connected to the body by a hinge region. The opening formed by the flap is dimensioned to freely receive the lead wire therethrough. The flap is then deflected along the hinge region to pinch the lead wire with the flap and assure continuity of a ground path during welding. The contact member is then grounded, and the welding electrode disposed adjacent an antenna of the lead wire extending outwardly from the contact member. Welding is preferably established by forming an arc between the welding electrode and the lead wire so that the lead wire is melted to form the weld with contact member.

  • Patent number: 6456004
Abstract: An apparatus and method for improving the performance of a lamp includes an envelope (10) enclosing an amalgam or dose (24) of mercury housed in a container (20). The container maintains mercury vapor equilibrium during lamp operation and prevents mercury diffusion during lamp off periods. The container has an opening (24) therein selectively adjustable between an open position and a closed position. A bimetal member (30) is associated with the opening of the container and provides the actuating means by which the container opens and closes. A stopping member (32), such as a valve or ball bearing, is attached to the bimetal member and extends into the container. When the lamp is in operation, the bimetal member is heated causing it to deflect. The deflection moves the stopping member from the container opening and enables the amalgam to maintain mercury vapor pressure equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 5374871
Abstract: An electric arc discharge lamp includes an elongated hollow tubular transparent envelope having a pair of opposite ends, a pair of electrode mounts respectively disposed in the ends of the tubular envelope, and a dosing capsule defining a hermetically sealed annular cavity containing a predetermined quantity of a dosing liquid therein. The dosing capsule has an inner edge defining an opening through the capsule for receiving a portion of one the electrode mounts therethrough such that the capsule is supported by the one electrode mount with the sealed annular cavity substantially surrounding the one electrode mount. The electrode mount includes a glass stem having inner and outer axially-displaced opposite ends, a pair of lead-in conductors extending through the glass stem and from the opposite ends of the glass stem, and an electrode supported between a pair of inner ends of the lead-in conductors adjacent to and spaced from the inner end of the glass stem.

  • Patent number: 4313692
Abstract: This invention is in regard to septic tank drainage conduit structures, including an open-sided conduit structure for installation in clay type soil conditions and a U-shaped conduit structure for use in loose or sandy soil conditions. Each conduit structure is constructed of an integral material and of a large size to achieve maximum absorption of waste septic fluid into the surrounding soil area. Each conduit structure is supported on leg members with a completely open bottom area between the leg members to achieve maximum waste water absorption downwardly from each conduit structure.
