    Abstract: Communications plugs are provided that include a plug housing. A plurality of plug contacts are mounted in a row at least partly within the plug housing. The plug contacts are arranged as differential pairs of plug contacts. Each of the differential pairs of plug contacts has a tip plug contact and a ring plug contact. A first capacitor is provided that is configured to inject crosstalk from a first of the tip plug contacts to a first of the ring plug contacts at a point in time that is after the point in time when a signal transmitted through the first of the tip plug contacts to a contact of a mating jack reaches the contact of the mating jack.

    Abstract: Communications connectors are provided that include a printed circuit board that has a top side and a bottom side. These connectors each include a housing that receives at least a portion of the printed circuit board. The connectors include first through eighth input contacts that are mounted on the printed circuit board and first through eighth output contacts that are likewise mounted on the printed circuit board. The connectors further include a board edge termination assembly that has an opening that receives an edge of the printed circuit board. The board edge termination assembly has a body that is configured to receive a communications cable having at least eight conductors and to electrically connect the eight conductors to respective ones of the first through eighth output contacts.

    Abstract: A scheme for compensating for both near-end (NEXT) and far-end (FEXT) crosstalk within a communication connector having first and second pairs of contact wires. A first stage of compensation includes capacitive coupling that corresponds in magnitude to a sum of offending capacitive and offending inductive crosstalk both of which originate from a mating connector. At a second stage of compensation, both (a) inductive coupling corresponding in magnitude to the offending inductive crosstalk, and (b) capacitive coupling corresponding in magnitude and of opposite polarity to the inductive coupling, are produced. In the disclosed embodiment, the first and the second compensation stages are implemented in an industry type RJ-45 communication jack to meet or surpass Category 6 NEXT/FEXT loss levels.

    Abstract: A communication plug that generates crosstalk that complements the compensating crosstalk in a legacy jack or connector. The communication plug includes a dielectric carrier on which a plurality of electrical conductors are disposed. Each conductor is configured to wrap around a first end of the carrier thereby forming a series of adjacent inductive loops. Complementary crosstalk is generated between the conductors as a result of the fields created from current flow through the inductive loops and can be fixed to a desired level by modifying certain engineerable parameters. The inductive loops are positioned in the nose or front region of the plug where the conductors engage the jack spring wires or terminals thus minimizing the propagation delay between the crosstalk signals generated in the plug and the crosstalk signals generated in the jack or connector.

    Abstract: A tunable blade structure for use in a communication plug terminating a cable carrying a plurality of conductors. One end of the blades is designed as an insulation displacement connector (IDC) for electrical communication with the conductors from the cable. The other end of the blades is designed as a jack contact region for electrical communication with jack springs. Between these two ends are three regions for manipulating the electrical characteristics of the blades: a capacitive coupling region, an inductive coupling region and an isolation region. By appropriately designing these three regions, electrical interference (i.e., crosstalk) between the conductors can be optimized.

    Abstract: An insulation displacement connecting (IDC) terminal that accepts two insulated wires in a single slot for the making of an electrical connection. The IDC portion of the terminal, which cuts into the insulation of the wire to establish contact, is designed with large flat spring contacts about a centrally located slot, wherein the contacts displace torsionally when normal forces placed on the terminals exceed a fixed load. The torsional displacement is enabled by the inclusion of a widened slot proximate a base portion of the terminal. The widened slot in combination with an angular orientation of the terminal contained within an insulated connector module housing enables the contacts to twist to away from one another. This displacement effect allows for larger gauge and more than one conductor to be inserted into the terminal without permanently yielding the beam contacts of the terminal.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a connector module which permits a make-before-break contact when inserting jumper or test access leads. The stem portions of the contacts make physical and electrical contact at two points which are aligned with slots in the module so that one point remains closed while one point opens due to lead insertion. Ribs may also be provided to guide the lead insertion and control deflection of the leads and stems.
