  • Publication number: 20240059628
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method for recovering products from a fermentation broth. The disclosure relates to the use of extractive distillation to recover products which have close boiling points, such as ethanol and isopropanol, from a fermentation broth. In an embodiment, the recovery of product is completed in a manner that minimizes stress on the microbial biomass, such that it remains viable, at least in part, and may be recycled and reused in the fermentation process, which may result in increased efficiency in the fermentation process. The extractive distillation vessel reactor may be used downstream of a distillation vessel. To minimize stress on the microbial biomass the distillation vessel may be under vacuum. The extractive distillation vessel may be used alongside a separation vessel such that the separation vessel is capable of recycling extractive distillation agent.

  • Patent number: 11807592
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method for recovering products from a fermentation broth. The disclosure relates to the use of dehydration to recover products which have close boiling points, such as ethanol and isopropanol, from a fermentation broth. In an embodiment, the recovery of product is completed in a manner that minimizes stress on the microbial biomass present in the fermentation broth, such that it remains viable, at least in part, and may be recycled and reused in the fermentation process, which may result in increased efficiency in the fermentation process. The dehydration reactor may be used downstream of a distillation vessel and converts products such as ethanol and isopropanol into ethylene and propylene. The ethylene and propylene can be used to prepare a component of a fuel or can be polymerized. To minimize stress on the microbial biomass the distillation vessel may be under vacuum.

  • Patent number: 10166461
Abstract: Card shuffler apparatuses include a card repositioner used to randomly reposition a plurality of cards on-edge over an aperture extending through a card support surface to allow cards to sequentially pass through the aperture in a random order. The apparatuses may be capable of continuously and sequentially forming playing card hands for use in a game. Shuffler apparatuses may be used to obtain a measurement relating to a thickness of the deck of cards. Methods involve the use of card shuffler apparatuses to form one or more playing card hands in a playing card game. Additional methods involve counting playing cards present within a stack of playing cards using a shuffler apparatus. In further methods, a number of shuffler apparatuses and a lesser number of shuffler activation devices are provided in a gaming establishment so as to preclude simultaneous use of all the shuffler apparatuses in the establishment.

  • Patent number: 7185845
Abstract: A wide field-of-view optical system that may be used in determining a direction to a source of light, or for determine steering corrections to direct a vehicle toward a target, is disclosed. The optical system, which may be used as a seeker in a missile or other weapon, comprises a spherical ball lens truncated to provide one or more facets on which detectors may be mounted to measure relative intensities as a blur spot image of a source of light, which may be a reflection from a laser designated target, moves across the detectors, which may be individual elements in a quadrant detector. Narrow band filters may be used to suppress undesired wavelengths and enhance performance. The innovative design enables implementation of a wide field-of-view seeker with no moving parts. The spherical ball lens may be used directly as an aerodynamic surface without a need for a separate optical dome.

  • Patent number: 5826222
Abstract: A method of encoding speech by analyzing a digitized speech signal to determine excitation parameters for the digitized speech signal is disclosed. The method includes dividing the digitized speech signal into at least two frequency bands, determining a first preliminary excitation parameter by performing a nonlinear operation on at least one of the frequency band signals to produce a modified frequency band signal and determining the first preliminary excitation parameter using the modified frequency band signal, determining a second preliminary excitation parameter using a method different from the first method, and using the first and second preliminary excitation parameters to determine an excitation parameter for the digitized speech signal. The method is useful in encoding speech. Speech synthesized using the parameters estimated based on the invention generates high quality speech at various bit rates useful for applications such as satellite voice communication.

  • Patent number: 5715365
Abstract: A method of encoding speech analyzes a digitized speech signal to determine excitation parameters for the digitized speech signal. The method includes dividing the digitized speech signal into at least two frequency bands, performing a nonlinear operation on at least one of the frequency bands to produce a modified frequency band, and determining whether the modified frequency band is voiced or unvoiced. The nonlinear operation is an operation that emphasizes a fundamental frequency of the digitized speech signal so that the modified frequency band signal includes a component corresponding to the fundamental frequency even when the at least one frequency band signal does not include such a component.
