Patent number: 12665107Abstract: A network architecture and a ceiling-mounted enclosure for an office building allows end user devices far from a main equipment room to communicate with servers and outside provider services available within the equipment room. Network cabling includes at least one optical fiber to establish communication between the equipment room and the enclosure and electrical conductors to carry high voltage pulses, exceeding 300 Volts DC, from the equipment room to the enclosure. The enclosure includes a power connection compartment to terminate the high-voltage, a power conversion compartment housing power conversion equipment to convert the high voltage into a lower voltage DC output and/or an AC power output, and a data connection compartment housing data communication equipment to establish communication between the at least one optical fiber and a plurality of ports for twisted pair cable connectors.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2024Date of Patent: June 23, 2026Assignee: CommScope Technologies LLCInventors: Wayne Hopkinson, Ronna Davis, Scott Keith, Jeffrey Oberski

Publication number: 20250022634Abstract: A hybrid cable includes at least two bonded pairs of electrical conductors, such as four bonded pairs. The bonded pairs may be stranded about a central member and may also be bonded to each other. In one embodiment, the central member is a GRP rod, and one or two buffer tubes, each containing optical fibers, are stranded along with the bonded pairs about the GRP rod. In another embodiment, the central member is a tube and plural optical fibers are contained within the tube. Each bonded pair of electrical conductors carry digital or class 4 power from a transmitter card to a respective receiver card. Each bonded pair has unique indicia to facilitate the correct connections between the transmitter and receiver cards, such as tactile physical features on an outer surface of one of the electrical conductors of each bonded pair.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2024Publication date: January 16, 2025Inventors: Zachary Clampitt, David Wiebelhaus, Joseph Lichtenwalner, Wayne Hopkinson

Publication number: 20140060913Abstract: A cable includes a jacket surrounding a cable core. The cable core includes four twisted pairs. An S-shaped separator separates two of the twisted pairs from the other two twisted pairs. The S-Shaped separator may be formed with two layers or three layers, wherein at least one layer is conductive. In alternative embodiments, one or both ends of the S-shaped separator make electrical contact to mid-portions of the separator to create one or two shielding cambers within the cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2012Publication date: March 6, 2014Inventors: Wayne Hopkinson, Trent Hayes, Daniel Parke, Douglas Brake, David Wiebelhaus

Patent number: 8616247Abstract: A method for forming a cabling media includes providing a wire pair including first and second conductor members. Each of the first and second conductor members includes a respective conductor and a respective insulation cover surrounding the conductor thereof. The first and second conductor members are twisted about one another to form a twisted wire pair having a twist length that purposefully varies along a length of the twisted wire pair. The method may include: imparting a purposefully varied pretwist to the wire pair using a wire pair twist modulator; and imparting additional twist to the wire pair using a wire pair twisting device downstream of the wire pair twist modulator.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2008Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: CommScope, Inc. of North CarolinaInventors: Wayne Hopkinson, Trent Hayes, Borivoje Antonijevic, Craig Masters, Ross Beames, Eamonn Wyer, Robert Black

Publication number: 20050087361Abstract: A cabling media includes a plurality of twisted wire pairs housed inside a jacket. Each of the twisted wire pairs has a respective twist length, defined as a distance wherein the wires of the twisted wire pair twist about each other one complete revolution. At least one of the respective twist lengths purposefully varies along a length of the cabling media. In one embodiment, the cabling media includes four twisted wire pairs, with each twisted wire pair having its twist length purposefully varying along the length of the cabling media. Further, the twisted wire pairs may have a core strand length, defined as a distance wherein the twisted wire pairs twist about each other one complete revolution. In a further embodiment, the core strand length is purposefully varied along the length of the cabling media. The cabling media can be designed to meet the requirements of CAT 5, CAT 5e or CAT 6 cabling, and demonstrates low alien and internal crosstalk characteristics even at data bit rates of 10 Gbit/sec.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2003Publication date: April 28, 2005Inventors: Trent Hayes, Wayne Hopkinson
