Abstract: A system includes a receiver and a communication interface. The receiver is adapted to tune to an audio/video portion over a transport medium. The communication interface is adapted to receive announcement data associated with the tuned audio/video content directed to a first addressable location and to receive a special announcement directed to the first addressable location. The special announcement indicates availability of the announcement data associated with the tuned audio/video program, and the announcement data is associated with the tuned audio/video content and indicates enhancement data is being transmitted. The controller is adapted to redirect the announcement data to a second addressable location other than the first addressable location in response to the special announcement.

One of the audio/video programs is tuned to, with one or more ancillary data portions located and identified with the tuned audio/video program. A special announcement in the ancillary data portions delivered to an expected location is used to locate announcements for the tuned audio/video program.

Abstract: An information delivery system includes receiving platforms to receive data communicated from a transmitting source according to a unidirectional transfer protocol over a link. At least some receiving platforms process the received data to determine if a portion of expected data is missing. If so, a receiving platform is able to generate and send a request for the missing data according to a supplemental protocol that is separate from the unidirectional transfer protocol. The transmitting source is able to receive the request for missing data and to retransmit the missing data. The data may include ancillary information (e.g., enhancement data) associated with audio/video content (e.g., television content). By adding the supplemental protocol to enable requests for missing data, a unidirectional transfer protocol that is not reliable is made reliable as a mechanism is provided to ensure receipt of the transmitted data.

Abstract: A system includes a content creator, a transmitting source, and a receiver platform for communicating enhancement data associated with audio/video content according to a protocol without layering capability. A receiver platform detects for a first announcement and a second announcement, the first announcement being associated with non-layered enhancement data, and the second announcement being associated with layered enhancement data having a plurality of layers. Each layer includes one or more sources of trigger files or one or more sources of resource files. Alternatives presented in the second announcement are examined, the alternatives containing different collections of the layers of enhancement data. One of the alternatives in the second announcement is selected based on the capacity of the second receiver platform. One or more layers containing respective trigger files and resource files associated with the selected alternative are received.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for selecting resources utilizing virtual uniform resource locators. In one embodiment, a method includes determining the on-line status of multiple servers specified by a virtual uniform resource locator. The method further includes selecting one of the multiple servers based upon the status of the servers, resolving an actual uniform resource locator for the selected server, and returning the resolved uniform resource locator.
