  • Patent number: 7540871
Abstract: A three-port receptacle connects both single-prong and three-prong electrical connectors of electrosurgical accessories to an electrosurgical generator. The receptacle includes two control ports for accepting the two control prongs of the three-prong connector and an energy-delivery port for accepting the energy-conducting prong of the three-prong connector. The energy-delivery port also receives an energy-conducting prong of a single-prong connector. A single contact assembly is located behind the energy-delivery port and delivers electrosurgical power to the energy-conducting prongs of both types of accessory connectors.

  • Patent number: 7235071
Abstract: Male and female mating pieces of a gas-assisted electrosurgical accessory connector are connectable together by radially contacting a sealing surface formed on one mating piece with a resilient radially-compressible sealing member carried on the other mating piece. A gas-tight seal exists along a length of the sealing surface as the two mating pieces connect with relative connection movement. The existence of the gas-tight seal over a range of relative connection movement maintains the seal if the mating pieces should become slightly disconnected. The mating pieces are also restrained against separation from one another. A recess is formed in one of the mating pieces and a retention member carried on the other one of the mating pieces is biased into contact with the recess. Separation of the two connected members requires manual force to extract the retention member from the recess.

  • Patent number: 6835082
Abstract: Each of a banana pin connector plug, a rolled sheet metal connector plug and a Bovie connector plug are electrically and mechanically connected an electrosurgical generator with a single adapter-less multi-plug connector device. These three connector plugs are prevalently used to connect foot-switched monopolar electrosurgical handpieces to the generator. A socket is moved into a position to connect to the banana pin connector plug, and the socket is moved out of position to permit a contact arm to move into contact with the rolled sheet metal connector plug and the Bovie connector plug.

  • Publication number: 20040097912
Abstract: Access to the internal components within an electrosurgical generator is facilitated by removing a panel from a housing of the electrosurgical generator and separating electrical connections between an internal circuit board and electrical connectors in the panel housing. A socket-defining connector member is removable from and replaceable within an insert receptacle in which it is retained in a plug-receiving receptacle in the housing panel. A light emitter projects light supplied by an optical fiber into the plug-receiving receptacle. The non-electrical light conductors do not pick up noise created by the high voltage electrosurgical power conducted through the front panel. Spring electrical contacts facilitate making and breaking mechanical and electrical connections between the front panel and the internal components within the electrosurgical generator.
